    RE: dod_argentan opinions

    I don't believe in restricting a class.

This map is going to be one of my favorites. It has a lot of strategic possibilities. It has only been a few days since its release, I have seen some strategies for both axis and allies. I think that with more time on the map better strategies and counter-strategies will emerge. I imagine that the map creators did not necessarily create a map that any one class could dominate. If a team is communicating with eachother and has players skilled in MG/counter MG, Sniper/Counter Sniper skills etc., and has a balance of offense and defense then no restrictions should ever be needed on any map.

Early in the maps release I did not see much success in using strategies that work in other maps. People are just getting a feel for it.

In my opinion it is too early to make the decision that any other official map is better. Each map has its own unique strategies. It will take time for players to work them all out. This map as a lot of possibilites. I believe the map designers were careful to design a balanced map that doesn't give either side an inhearent advantage. Only time will tell if this map will be a favorite among the DoD:S community as a whole.

I am all for it. It is way better than anzio.

restricting a class doesnt necesarilly mean that you're getting constantly owned by snipers and MGs, instead, it could mean the opposite. you're owning them so much, or your team is full of snipers and MGs getting killed easily, that even with the numbers balanced, the teams are uneven. how many times have i been in a team with like 4 snipers eating SHIT while the opposing team is just running down the flags easily? alot, restrictions works.

If I am on a team that is full of snipers, or any class for that matter. and getting their asses kicked, I offer my suggestions to the team. I try to suggest ab alternative class, better suited to the stratagy at the time. Get people to work together is not always easy, but most of the time people will listen. They may not just suicide and switch class right then. But in my experience most people don't like getting owned.

And getting back to my original point: I still think its early to know exactly what strategies wll work best on Argentan. Since this is a public server and we are starting to get more and more regulars, they will learn eachothers strengths and weaknesses. I am not saying that limits and/or restrictions aren't ever necessary. But they do greatly affect strategies. This is only my opinion.

I also found a small glitch on Argentan.. if you stand on the railings next to the tables and chairs near the axis spawn, you can actually jump into their spawn if you crouch before you land on those sandbags. Minor problem, but this should be fixed on Valve's part.

You can not only jump into axis, we wehrmacht can jump into yours if we do it right, one sandbag onto your left is a little short on one side.

I don't think it is a glitch. The only map that you cannot enter the spawn of an enemy, unassisted by another player, is Donner.

The map designers know what they are doing. This map, as well as all officially released maps, undergo significant play testing before being released to the public.

And where else would you go when they get your last flag, wonder if they had a little pity when making it.
