    Total War series on sale

And I'm not sure which one to get. I think Shogun 2 is the most recent one, and it's received glowing praise, so if the price is right, it's the one I'm gonna get. But assuming it's not cheap (i.e. like $5 or less), which would be the next best one to pick up? Empire? Napoleon? Rome? It seems like Empire is the one getting the second-best reviews, with the main complaints being that the scale was too big.

From what I've heard Empire is bad, Napolean is basically the same thing but properly done.

I am not a fan of the musket warfare though, my favorite is Rome. Shogun 2 is good as well though...especially if you want pretty graphics, and polished Campaign

Rome was my first and my favorite. But the others came out and I hadnt upgraded my computer, so graphics were lower and bad FPS...

Re: Total War series on sale

Ended up getting Shogun 2. It's pretty fun and runs well on minimum settings on my ancient piece of crap computer, so that's good. The real-time battles frankly suck, though. I don't think it's a design failing, it's just that I prefer Starcraft if I'm gonna play a RTS game. For things like old-school battles (where formations matter, etc), I'd much prefer a turn-based style. During one of the longer tutorial battles (sieging a castle), I just frankly got bored halfway through and bailed out of the battle and had the computer auto-resolve it for me.

    Same with the naval battles.

It's still fun. It was worth the $8, just don't expect to enjoy the actual battles much if you're used to Starcraft.
