New map format
Jeb is changing things up... Normally I would be all pissy right about now because a new map format is going to BREAK SHIT... A lot of shit in fact. There's a converter that should mean we won't lose anything with our current maps, but I still expect a lot of plugins to break. And I don't know if bukkit is going to update quickly for the new format or not. I'm not even going to think about it until bukkit updates (well... that's the current theory anyway).
BUT... What he's done along with that map format tempers my rage...
The max ceiling has been upped to 256 from 128. That's right... 200% above-ground height on our current worlds (and 100% on any new worlds I would imagine). What, you say? My math is funky? Well the average ground height in our current worlds is 64. 64 blocks of ground to bedrock and 64 to build in the air/sky. So we are adding another 128. That's a 200% more than we currently have, and new maps will probably be 128 average... So 128 to build in air/sky. Or 100% more than we currently have.

The only thing of real importance that we built in the 1.0 release world was the rail system, which not many people use nowadays (Considering not many people still play Minecraft here). I took down the city walls, so the only thing remaining near spawn is the portal temple. We have other buildings spread out over the place, but nothing I think any of us would die if we lost. Anything of importance to people is built somewhere not in the main world (ex: Corpse's sky city and Corpse's world), and so we can just re-link those from any world.
We're probably going to want to generate a new world for the upcoming update, as it introduces some refinements to the biome generators, and includes the new Jungle biome (which I have screenshots of), as well as this new world height adjustment. I would say we go ahead and make a new world and treat that one as the next main world.Last edited by Allane; 02-15-12 at 01:31 PM.
