Baldur's Gate I and II Enhanced Editions around Summer 2012

Announcing Baldur?s Gate: Enhanced Edition? « Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition News

Overhaul Games has assembled a talented team of artists, programmers and designers to enhance this timeless classic. To remain true to the spirit of the game, the team includes original Baldur’s Gate developers.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition™ and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition™ will feature a re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements.
    From the Overhaul Games website:

"About Us: We are Overhaul Games. since we got our start at Bioware we've made a few games, met a few friends, and now we're back working on the games we love. For years we've wanted to continue our journey on Baldur's Gate, and now after months negotiations we get to do just that.
Will this be Baldur's Gate with the content/bug fixes of some mods re-engineered, or could we legitimately see major improvements over the original two games?

Trent Oster is "Ex-BioWare / EA Video Game Director. Now Video Game/Internet Entreprenuer, as Beamdog, an independent PC download store / developer"

Yeah, he misspells entrepreneur and can't use punctuation to save his life, but he has interesting things to say about what would be new in BG:EE

By original voice acting we mean keeping the original voice files for old characters. New VO only for new characters

@Turgescence it will be better. We've got the code to rework the UI and rendering #bgee #baldursgate

We're very interested in supporting the modding community and hopefully kicking off even more mods
Based on the fact that it's due in Summer 2012 (according to Tom's Hardware) and what this guy's saying on Twitter, I'm guessing it might just be putting a bunch of mods together in one package, then changing the engine to give an easier user interface and better modding tools.

Still intriguing. Those two games were among the best of the classic RP games. I'd given them another look especially if they are released in digital format so I don't have to take the game disks off the shelf to install them.
