05-17-12, 05:46 PM #1Torchlight II
No doubt the release of Torchlight II is going to be completely overshadowed by Diablo III. Kyle and I have the game pre-purchased, and I was wondering if anyone else is going to get/is thinking about getting Torchlight II.
For the record, Runic Games (developing studio for Torchlight I and II) is the original team that did the first two Diablo's, but broke off from Blizzard after its merger with Activision. The original Torchlight was singleplayer only, but Torchlight II is going to have multiplayer (I think I read somewhere about 8 player? 4 at the least.) The original also took place only in the town of Torchlight and the dungeon beneath, just like the original Diablo. Torchlight II will take place on the greater map, and will feature Torchlight as well as 2 other main towns, with plenty of overworld and underworld to explore.
When I pre-purchased Torchlight II (for 20 dollars, I might add), I also got the original Torchlight for free, and I've been enjoying it so far. It's a bit short, but the difficulty choices and never-ending loot make the game highly replayable. The two for one offer is still available, so if you want two games for 20 bucks, here's a good choice."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Allane. Check out the mods for the original. Lots of fun stuff and improvements. I'll be pre-ordering closer to launch. http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/dow...hp?do=cat&id=3

By the way, the Beta Weekend for Torchlight II is going on now. It's Multiplayer only, and you have to register for a Runic account before you can get a key.
So far it's pretty good. And since there's no NDA, I can say pretty much anything about it. There are 4 classes: The Embermage (Alchemist from Torchlight I), the Engineer (Steampunk themed Destroyer), Outlander (Magic/Vanquisher), and Berserker (Straight up melee). There are 8 pets to choose from right now (cosmetic choice, mostly), including a Ferret.
One of the mechanics that they changed that I REALLY like is that your level determines what items can be auto-identified. That means you don't need Identification scrolls to ID items that are below your level's auto-ID level. Items that aren't identified will say "Identified at level X, or with a scroll", so the scrolls still have use.
I haven't played much of it, 30 minutes maybe. I'll probably get back to it real soon."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
