WWIIOL:BE goes F2P
WWII Online: Battleground Europe has enabled 'Free to play' accounts.
These accounts won't have access to the highest tier equipment and can't become part of High Command.
It's been crazy with how many people have been playing now. It would be a great time to check it out.

Now, it really isn't too bad. Especially if you start playing right now. The newbies outnumber the oldbies by a lot right now, and it is easy to find people to show you the ropes.
When you start out, you don't have worry about things like supply, Brigade movements, or Forward Resupply Units.
Just join someone's mission and follow their orders(and learn to mark targets on your map).
As infantry, it is pretty straightforward.

Re: WWIIOL:BE goes F2P
I guess I should describe the game for those who have never heard about it.
WWII Online: Battleground Europe is an 'mmofps'. It is fought over a 1/2 scale map of Europe and I have been in battles in cities with hundreds of players. Campaigns can last weeks or months.
This game has infantry, paratroopers, towed guns, tanks, planes & ships, all of which are modeled with full realism in mind. For an example of the type of realism calculations that are involved:
So things like Flight models, ballistic models & armor models are all in game.
Each side is lead by a player 'High Commands' that manage the supply of troops, equipment and brigade movements. Supply can even be hurt by strategic bombing of factories.
