About Borderlands playthrough
Some of you may will already be familiar with this, as it plays the same way as in the first game, but there are 2 playthroughs for each character, followed by what people refer to as playthrough 2.5. After you beat the second playthrough (or true vault hunter mode, as it is called in this one) everything scales up to level 50+. This includes enemies and, most importantly, side missions. The only catch to this is you can't have started the side mission during the second playthrough in order for it to scale.
What this means is, for optimal "lootness," you should skip ALL side missions during your second playthrough. This also serves the purpose of making the second playthrough more challenging, as you tend to go into things at the same level, or even slightly underleveled compared to what missions were designed for, as opposed to being generally overleveled in the first play through because of the completion of sidemissions.
Of course the big benefit of doing this is, all of the unique quest rewards you would have recieved at the level of the mission also scale up to level 50, keeping them useful after you have finished the second playthrough.
TLDR If you want level 50 unique quest rewards, don't do side missions during "true vault hunter mode."
Note: This has absolutely no bearing on your first play through. Enjoy.

Re: About Borderlands playthrough
Meh. I could understand doing that with 1 or 2 characters. But what I'm going to do is do all the side quests again during my 2nd playthrough on my first character, then skip them for my next character, and play the rest by ear. That way, I'll be able to use the good quest rewards across all my characters, and still get a lvl 50 version later. As soon as some DLC comes out that raises level cap, all that trouble you went through will be pointless anyway if you do it with all your alts.
