Re: Aliens Colonial Marines falls flat on its face.
The only redeeming factor in my eyes was the sound, which was basically ripped straight from the movie.
You know what would have been great? Remove fucking Deathmatch mode. Make your level design more like Natural Selection - claustrophobic, dark, creepy, and with many options for the more nimble and maneuverable alien team. Make the alien playstyle and control scheme unique, fundamentally different from the Marines - for example, an emphasis on fast, constant movement and/or stealth to keep from being instantly cut down by the powerful ranged weapons of the Marines, to get within range to one-hit-kill a Marine with a melee attack. Give them instant respawn so it feels like the Marines are really being attacked by a horde. For the Marines, seriously emphasize cooperative teamplay and objective-based gameplay - anyone remember Alien Swarm? A pity they never did anything beyond that first level, because it was fun having to run around a map with a specialized, customizable squad of human players defending against waves of endless weak enemies while completing specific objectives.
So some hits, but alot of misses, yea the Aliens are very slow and wall climbing is a cluster fuck. Marines only survive when they hold each other's dicks. Alone, they are screwed.
So you think people would work together but there's one problem. THERE'S NO FUNCTIONAL VOIP!!!
Voip is in the game, but it doesn't work. I* **ts o**s a*l th* ti** s* *ou *o*'t *now wh*t pe**pl* *r* sa*n*g

Ashley hasn't gotten back to me. So either they are up to their nostrils in the shit storm that usually comes with a POS game, or she's still on vacation. Or worse, they fired everyone.
Another buddy of mine working at GBX, but on another project, said that Sega is pissed. Really pissed. Like... we might sue your ass pissed.

Ranger, I like you and I don't specifically wish trouble on your friends, but I hope to science SEGA sues the piss out of Gearbox. They can sue the shit out of them because they put that in a box and called it ACM. Or maybe it was piss, the project was code name "Pecan" "Pee-ina-Can" And if anyone needs tossed out into the cold at Gearbox, its Pitchford. Death is not wished upon him, but he needs to be shamed, and cast out.

Oh yeah something I forgot to add in my little rant. I've gotten burned before with pre-ordering games. The last one I did pre-order IIRC was Civilization V, which I fucking hated. CivIV is still a vastly superior game. So now - adding in the fact that I'm a poor college student - I'm very, very cautious about the games I buy.

I will pre-order Skyrim plug ins and that is all.
Let me know if you need help reviewing the co op part.
And make sure you hit on the good points in the game. I'll be checking up on you.Last edited by SovietDooM; 02-15-13 at 11:23 AM.

Re: Aliens Colonial Marines falls flat on its face.
Well, like I said, they are peons. Peons are hardly ever the blame for a failed game. Usually they are all contract labor and know that when the game releases they are looking for a new job anyway.
I highly doubt with the success of Gearbox's other games, they'll be really hurting. But who knows what SEGA will do, etc.
