Heroes and Generals: F2P WWII Game

I've been watching FrankieonPC1080p daily for the last month or so and he posted a video today of this Free 2 Play game "Heroes and Generals" a World War II first person shooter. I'm going to download it tonight and give it a go. Take a look.

It entered a pretty open alpha a loooong time ago. They definitely want to go through basically the entire development cycle with close collaboration with the players. It does need a lot of work, but I doubt it will be 'released' for a long time.

Even though it is now 'open beta', it is still in very early development stages. There are loads of missing features and everything still feels very clunky. Feel free to test away though.

I couldn't even get into a "battle" (or whatever they call it). Looks like they are having serious issues with LONG wait times to find players for matches. Either way it's free and something different.

Is it sort of like a DayZ (or perhaps planetside is a better reference) or more like CSS or DoD:S with rounds?
