Gearbox Acquires Rights to Homeworld
another one of my favorite franchise.
Everything about this game was fracking awesome.
The thing about these real time strategist games is that are ageless.
To bad I think this one is a terrible idea,
any of you played it? or excited?

Re: Gearbox Acquires Rights to Homeworld
I *loved* Homeworld. In some ways it's still an amazing game. The control and interface system was a revelation. Gameplay wasn't just beautiful, it was cinematic - not the cutscenes, the actual gameplay.
I still have the soundtrack CD.
Didn't play Homeworld2.
I have no idea if the acquisition will produce anything good. Heck, even the same studio often can't produce a good sequel.

Homeworld 1 and its expansion were great. Homeworld 2...had adaptive AI that generally meant "To win, I must build eleventy billion of one type of ship and spam the enemy with them".
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Re: Gearbox Acquires Rights to Homeworld
H2 I like more like most sequels:
AoE2,tycoon roller coaster 2, Bf2,T2, HL2
the first one is always I pilot I say. they test the game idea to see if they got something. Once they see they do They put effort on the sequel. In most cases you see it. h2 runs smoother and is much more of an eye candy.
The only thing Gearbox needs too do is re-mask the game in a new engine, with of course new scenes. Keep all the gameplay and game function the same. *cough rolls eyes* ... Thats all!
So the new people can relate to the old gamers and old gamers can reminisce.
that's all! That's all they need too do but watch them screw it up!

While in some cases I agree with you. The first Age of Empires was... meh. But they really knocked Age of Empires II out of the park.
The one I would strongly disagree with you is Half Life. The first Half Life wasn't just "another FPS". It changed FPS games for the foreseeable future. The style of combat, interactive worlds and NPCs, in game dialogue vs cut scenes, and let's not forget that the game actually made you solve little puzzles in order to get through areas. No more "find the gold key" or any of that boring crap.
Sometimes the first can be a game changer...
