Re: DotA2 Knowledge Dump
Been unexpectedly gone the past few weeks, training and prepping for an upcoming deployment.
Just some things I've noticed after playing a few IXDL games the first night I was back: Elder Titan is making a come back in the competitive scene apparently. Primarily taking up the #3 role and just spamming abilities, but I've played against him a few times where the other team drafted him as their strong carry. Did it work? Meh, in the sense that Alchemist works as a hard carry. They both take quite a bit of farm to get off the ground, but once they do you have a serious problem on your hands.
People also seem to be shying away from the micro-intensive heroes; such as, Chen, Furion, Enchantress. And the aggressive trilane was used in literally all of the matches I played in last night. Even when it would have made sense, and they had the line-up to make it happen, to swing over into a defensive trilane all three just sat in the offlane and tried to duke it out.
I've also noticed Mek not getting picked up anymore. Instead supports are getting Urns and relying on that small amount of regen to keep their dudes up until they get farmed enough to tank just about anything. The only problem with this trend (maybe not a broad trend, but it seems to be pretty standard in IXDL at the moment) is that Mek is used for more than just supplying health to your team mates. When a team buys up Mek it's the beginning of a very important timing window that your team now has to push down a tower. That armor bonus is significant when compared to the towers damage output, not to mention the purchase of a Mek is generally after your team scored a kill in one of the lanes giving you that opportunity to push.
It's late, I just got back tonight so that's all I can muster up. If you don't know what IXDL is, and you're interested in a competitive environment that will actually show you how you are progressing and rank up with your peers, I suggest heading over to ixdl.net. It's simply an in-house league. I believe it was started by ixmike from Liquid? Not sure, I'm tired, out.
