    Divinity Original Sin and MIND

I was a huge fan of the Bauldrs Gate and Icewind Dale series back in the day... Was hoping this game is similar to the old school top down RPG. Does anyone have first hand experience playing it? Is it worth buying?

There's also another game I'm interested in called Mind: Path to Thalamus. From the videos it seems like an environmental puzzle game with some artsy graphics. Anyone play this? Thoughts?

I have been playing off and on Divinity Dragon Commander. It's an RTS game though, not an rpg. I guess there's a range of games with the divinity nametag though.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

I have it through GOG. I can't remember if they have Co-op yet; there is co-op if you do Steam.

It's fun. Is it $40 fun? I'm not sure. If I had it on Steam, I'd let you play it with the family share thing. I still haven't gone to far into it as I'm still figuring out what I want my playstyle to be. I'm picky like that.

Ask more specific questions, and I will do my best to answer.

I will say that it still is buggy. Nothing game breaking (well, generally). A lot of bugs have been fixed. There are still more to go. Larian doesn't seem to be a Bethesda, so I think they actually will get fixed.

Re: Divinity Original Sin and MIND

Oh, and if you do get Divinity, make sure to look at the wiki, especially the page on Action Points.

It's the wiki the devs set up as the official one. Lots of work still to be done.

Save scumming is also a feature. All loot is randomly generated (containers, enemy drops, etc.). So, you can always save scum if you don't like the results. I would only do that for ornate and higher level chests (say > level 5) and for bosses. It isn't necessary.

I really like doing two lonewolfs (lonewolf talent means no companion for each character that has the talent). If you do that, save your your level 3 talent until you hit level 5 when you can get Glass Cannon. Only do this if playing on Hard or for roleplay purposes.

If you do want companions, things are a little easier. More overall health, AP, etc. for the team. IMPORTANT: every companion you recruit after your second has reduced stats. No one is sure if this is a bug or a feature yet (most of the Larian devs went on a brief vacation after the release crunch and the first few patches; they're back now, I think). So, make a save before you meet the two companions with stories...if ya like them, don't worry. If you can't stand them, reload, and don't recruit them until later.

Madora is in the tavern. The other one is in the library (second story of the mayor's house).

Once you get two umm...things (you'll know what as they unlock stuff somewhere), you can pay to recruit companions. Here's another bug: if you recruit companions who are level one after you are level 3, they don't get the attribute point they should at level 2. You can get to the recruiter before level 3 though.

If you get companions, don't put any points into crafting skills on your "fighting" companions and your main characters. That is to say: crafting and blacksmithing. You can make a third companion (with lowered attributes) that specializes in crafting. You can make a fourth that specializes in selling crap (skill up charisma and barter)

Rubies...don't sell them. With enough crafting skill, they can be combined with armor to give +resistance to all elements (not poison, tenebrium, etc.).

For crafting: Crafting Recipes & Guide - Version 6 | Divinity Original Sin - Help/Tips/Tricks | Larian Studios forums

Crafting can be powerful, but it's not necessary. Legendaries will almost always be better than equal level crafted items (unless if they boost skills you don't use).

Oh, and most mods complicate things with doing Co-op. Modding can be both difficult and easy.

Adding custom companions (easy)--editing text files. Oh, and for each henchman, generate a new GUID instead of the one in the templates. That fixes the problem in the video (not my idea, someone on the Larian forums).
    Everything else: more complicated.
Multiple mods other than henchmen is trickier. (They don't play well together) You can get around it, but it takes some TLC.

It's still not THAT bad though.

I'm only running a mod that fixes some recipes. I also added some custom companions.

There are booby mods already. This isn't Skyrim (graphics wise), so I haven't used them....what? I really haven't....don't give me that look...I'm not lying...I swear.

Re: Divinity Original Sin and MIND

Oh, and don't take any talents that boost attributes or abilities. There's a better option out there, I guarantee it. Those talents are traps.

No mods currently change talents, skills, or abilities. Those are hard coded and essentially inaccessible at the moment. Hopefully, since the devs are back, talents will be balanced so more are worth using. Leech combined with comeback kid makes you immune to physical damage, for instance (get hit with physical damage and you bleed, leech heals you a percent of your max health when you contact blood, comeback kid makes it so you don't die to an attack if you have >1 HP = what physical damage?). It's a bit OP. Most spells that are cast against you will be elemental; solution: rubies. Poison getting you down? Zombie.

It's still fun and takes some thinking especially when playing with environmental effects. Manipulating the environment instead of directly attacking your enemies is often for the best (stuns, slows, burning, poison, freezing, vision control, etc.). I wish there was a harder difficulty though. It's kind of like on most CRPGs after you get decent gear (even if it is just low level gear).

Weapons have AP penalties if your level is too low, BUT that does affect skills, so slap that level 1000000000000000000000000 staff on your mage.

Leadership is great, but you don't need to put points into. You'll get gear+points from traits that'll do just fine.

Traits are kind of roleplaying stats...but TBH, unless you're hard core roleplaying, you probably won't go with what your character would actually say. See the benefits for each Trait. (side note, cook the clam and eat it in the market square ) You increase your score for a trait through conversation choices. Each of the main characters can make a different choice. If they make different choices and that choice affects something in game (like whether or not to cook a clam), you do RPS to decide the victor. RPS also happens in other circumstances (tip: quicksave at the RPS screen and hit space; reload until you like the result). RPS is completely random. There is no strategy.

Oh, and in most cases, conversations can be avoided if you can't be seen (sneaking/invisibility) with some exceptions. One of those would be the small bridge on the beach with the drunk guys. You can get by them if you have certain goals in mind. As to why you might want to do that, I shall leave it to you to find out (the "why" is completely and totally not necessary).
