I find there's many a game worth the dime before it's release. Arma 3, stranded deep, mine craft are 3 that come to mind. But you bet your ass we could be burnt by any one of those.

Lol it was a poor sentence. I meant the few early access and Alpha/Betas that I have tried have all seemed to falter and never become popular or really worth buying. Those experiences ruined it for any other games trying to do the same in the future.

Don't ruin the pure magical nature of that phrase. Just let frolic in a rainbow colour tutu while being completely sexy.

    Re: Stomping Land Scam

The problem with games like rust is that they do the early access TOO early.

If you buy a game off the shelf (whether that shelf is physical or digital), eventually you are going to tire of it and move on. The same goes for early access. Rust was a fun diversion but it wasn't finished. And it languished (and still does) in an unfinished state. Unfortunately people have already gotten tired of it and moved on.

Early access shouldn't happen unless there will be major milestones that can keep players engaged and wanting to play it. The longer they go without refreshing that "burn out" time-table, the more likely it's going to wind up burning those people that bought into the early hype. The developers will see less and less money coming in and have less and less impetus to actually finish it. Why should they? They already got their money from those most willing to buy it.

I personally don't think any game should be allowed early access unless its pretty close to finished and has a definitive time frame for release within six months. At six months the devs have a pretty good handle on the finished project and know where they are taking the last bits of code. Sure it might slip a bit but things like Rust and DayZ that have been in early access for multiple years now (or so it seems like) with no real idea of an actual release date... That is irresponsible of people to purchase it and even more so of the developers who almost certainly have a vision but no idea how to complete the project. And DEFINITELY don't have a time-table with set goals towards a finished product.

    Re: Stomping Land Scam

I think the coolest thing about our ArmA3 Overpoch server is that it seems our Admin and Modding/Scripting group are doing the exact opposite of that mentality.

I remember when Epoch first released for ArmA2 and that mod took serveral months if not over a year till someone finalized a mod, Overpoch, that became the staple of a large community that played and still does I'm sure. Well actually that large community has most likely transferred their gaming to ArmA3. Hundreds of players are looking for some iteration of ArmA3 Epoch that makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

From what I know it seems that CCG might be the community of the Epoch developers? And thus mostly likely have a large dev team and get hands onto certain gameplay files before other server hosts. That or they pay money. So it may hard to compete with their version of Epoch a couple months from now, but my point is that TPG has done a remarkable job with the server. The work that has been done and is being done only shows that we too will have a server that hosts a community of players who love what OUR Admins have done with the Epoch mod. My only regret is that we have such a small team, and wish we had more to help do all the work these few members have done. Of course TPG has many willing to help and do help in any way they can, but the truth is not everyone picks up these technical scripting skills off the streets. More props to the few who have created the TPG server.

    Re: Stomping Land Scam

    Thanks Blondy,

As we progress we are finding that we CAN compete with CCG. They have a programmer named Maca134 who I believe was on the Arma2 Epoch Dev team at one point. He split off to startup CCG. While we might not be able to code at that level, we have access to a few people that can. Namely AgentRev who wrote the wasteland Mod, and a few others we have met along the way. Also, there is enough public coding being done and openly shared that with a little messaging and customization we are able to use to get the results we're looking for. Currently aside from his new trader inventory UI (Who gives a shit) and the silent takedown I saw on the Frankie Video (not even running on the US servers) I see little that CCG servers offer that we can not.

Yes, they have more staff and are able to get things into action faster. But we are talking insignificant amounts of time.

Not running 50+ servers has it's benefits too. A certain level of service. The opportunity to offer feedback that's actually considered. Many others.

Not to mention the simple fact CCG is holding their player base on the US Servers hostage for $250 a month in donations for keep the servers up.

We got a good team and a good thing going here. Stay tuned for 0.3 in the next couple days. The server files are out and we're working on getting them on the server asap.
