    Dirty Bomb Closed Beta

So Thursday morning, the next round of the Dirty Bomb closed beta will go live. Anybody else sign up/get in/been playing? I believe this will be round 3 of the closed beta, which will feature a strong desire to test the competitive 5v5 mode.

If you don't know what this game is (I'm astonished they haven't been advertising it more), it's the follow-up to the colossal mother of disappointing games that was BRINK. You remember, that game TPG hosted a server for like 10 minutes but nobody could play because NVidia cards couldn't run the game? I wanted sooooo bad for BRINK to be good, but by the time they got it patched and running, it was too little too late.

    Trailer:

Well, it would appear that the developers have learned their lessons because from what I played in the previous round of the beta a few weeks back, this game is freakin' sweet. It's being put out by Nexon and Splash Damage and it takes many of the positive ideas from BRINK (the art-style, the music, down-ed players, multi-objective game types) and blends them with aspects from other top shooters. You'll notice some big similarities with Battlefield's classes and flag-cap objectives, CS:GO's 5v5 competitive gameplay, and TF2's cartoony and fast paced gameplay. Additionally, certain classes (body-types) can do parkour style movements which builds off of BRINK's S.M.A.R.T. movement system.

I only was able to play 5 or 6 rounds of the game in the last beta, but each one of them was fun and frantic, demanding strong teamplay to win the round. The Healing Core (basically the medic's first-aid bag) is a deployable device (that can be killed by enemies) with a healing radius that each medic has one of. The medic is responsible for placing the device as well as picking it back up and moving to the next objective. It's a fresh take on medic gameplay that allows for some interesting strategic gameplay decisions. The medic doesn't have a lot of health, do I place my healing core at my feet to make myself formidable? Do me and my other fellow medics throw our cores down on the objective to heal a larger radius of teammates? Do we take turns throwing down our cores so that if an arty shell or grenade goes off, we have another core to put down?

Alternatively, that makes other classes have to think smart about how they engage the enemy. I'm a sniper with a clear view of the enemies at an objective; do I try to go for a headshot or two before the enemy ducks in cover? Or do I shoot and destroy their healing core first and destroy their ability to heal before a medic picks it back up and moves it? Everything that was wrong with BRINK seems right with Dirty Bomb. The gameplay is fast and fun, movement and combat is fluid, the guns feel right, the maps are varied and interesting. I really do have high hopes for this game, and not just because I had such high-hopes for BRINK. I really don't like f2p games for the most part as they have for the most part been pay 2 win, but this game doesn't feel like other f2p games. Unless they royally screw things up (which they still have time to do) this game could turn out to be pretty amazing.

Some screens I took while playing (It's in closed beta, but they aren't restricting people from posting screens, streaming, or posting video):

Yes, that is a cricket bat!.

If they made Wolfenstein: ET...it has to be good. Loved that game.

    "I need a need a medic!!"
    "Hallo!"
