Two of friends have it. (I want it, but money...) They love it. I've gone on the obsidian forums to live a little vicariously, and the devs actually seem to be communicating with the players. I even saw a dev release a fix via dropbox that didn't have time to make it to a patch.
The cool looking thing is how attributes are done, which opens up a lot of interesting builds. Number of viable builds goes down with difficulty, but that's to be expected. A lot of the classes that share names work differently. The barbarian, for instance, greatly benefits from high intelligence.

I can't wait to play it. It's basically everything I've ever wanted in D&D-like game. It was actually possible to get it on sale at GMG for ~$35 a week or two ago (VIP section, with a discount code). I almost got it then.
The different versions just give more extra goodies (art, music, guide, etc.). I think there was a pre-order bonus that gave a few items worth a lot (everything sold to the first vendor is worth more), but money is supposed to be easy to come by.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Pillars of Eternity
I have it. It's fun just like Baldur's gate style games.
The only downer for me is the loading time when traveling to any area which takes my rig 30 secs + to load and I have 16gig ram, no SSD.
I've tried several classes and chose a dual wielding (Axe-Sword) Rogue.
NPC Magic users do not use their spells! Unlike Never Winter Nights. There is no auto assign feature for them to automatically use it.

For anyone wondering, I did find some time to play this...fantastic throwback to the old Infinity Engine games. I only had enough time for 1 and 1/2 runs before I had to get back into real life but found it immensely enjoyable. True RPG...your choices make the world change...great lore, and character progression. On the hard/nightmare runs it was extremely challenging. I did love the way they broke away from your standard D&D mechanics.
I really only had 2 complaints:
1) Party stealth. So fucking annoying...they just announced a new expansion that is supposed to fix this.
2) I felt like the main plots hook sucked. Hard. I still found the main plot to be extremely interesting just couldn't really see any reason from an RP perspective to actually complete it for either of my characters.

I don't think the changes for things like stealth are tied to the expansion, which is nice if you have to wait for a sale for the expansion like me. Pretty much the only reason I've had to roleplay is if I have my main character as a Paladin/Priest. Even then, that's more: I'm doing it for the bonuses, not the RP.
Still a fantastic game.
(I still need to do a solo-triple crown.)enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
