my wife brought home the Xbox 360 version of this (I know, I know... PC version is better, blah blah blah, but on the big HDTV, it looks great and we can both enjoy it together) and it is an amazing game. The level of interactivity and openness is astounding. I did not play Oblivion so it is all very fresh to me. I was worried when they announced that the next Fallout game would be first person, but this game totally gets everything that is Fallout right on and puts it in a literally fresh perspective. 10/10 so far, but then, I am only about 12 hours into it. Some games do not even ship with 10 hours of play and I feel like I am just getting started on this one.
Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

I love this fucking game so much, but the only serious let down so far was that you can't keep playing after you complete the main quest. I was so fucking depressed that the end really was the end. You either have to start over, or load a previous save point and speed travel somewhere and ignore the main quest and all the action as if it's not happening.
Damn, I only explored like 1/9 of what is explorable. Ending was great, but the only down is you can't keep playing.
Keep that in mind guys, explore everything and complete everything before you finish the main quest!

Same situation as you Menoske, haven't done any of the main quest yet.  Been recently exterminating a "family" of vampires.  Fuck speech, any problem can be solved with my trusy Scoped .44 Magnum!
Here is my Fallout 3 review:
Buy it!

Re: Fallout: 3 *wo0t*
I tried to get to GNR and ended up eating bullets from a bunch of Raiders and Mutants. I decided I would gain a few more levels (and a lot more Ammo) before going back. I like how your ammo is limited most of the time. It makes hitting the target really important and makes melee combat a good idea some times. It also provides a very keen sense of anxiety as you fight off the hordes of Raiders and watch your ammo count dropping rapidly.
Do other people experience this or am I just doing something wrong to not pick up enough ammo?

A good trick is to LoS the raiders and then go into VATS as they come around the corner. Aim for the head and you'll wind up 2-3 shotting them with a 10mm pistol.
This works with most humanoid mobs, you can also charge non-flamethrowing/minigun users and use this same tactic.
Unfortunately if you choose the charging in tactic, you're going to take some hits, but most of the time its minimal..espeically if yer fighting other 10mm users or hunting rifle users.
Also the hunting rifle is an excellent weapon for killing raiders and Supermutants.
As far as ammo, get the perk that lets you find more ammo in containers, its very useful..and alternate between the weapons you use. I've killed pretty much everything with either the 10mm or the hunting rifle. The scoped .44 is an amazing gun as is the sniper's rifle.
The vampire family is an interesting one. Theres a special sword you can get if you pickpocket the key off of Vance/kill him for it called Vampire's Edge. I haven't used it but I'm assuming it might have a drain ability. I haven't gotten there on my evil character yet, but I should be there in the near future.
Hit me up on steam if you need any tactics/advice, I love the strategy and challenges this game has.
