Re: Future of BattleField

Personally I'd like to see a 'modern' battlefield setting complete with real world physics in play...bullet drop especially, just imagine all the poor 'l337 snip0rz' discovering they can't hit anything And I mean complete real world physics- recoil, ranges, firing rates, and most importantly, damage. Walk up and put a pistol round into someone's head..they drop. Body armor that works where applicable..ya know snipers don't wear it BF2142 scoring system, which rocks. More toys all around, weapons, vehicles, and especially more locations. And REAL flight physics! I get so sick of seeing people flying a J10 so slow that a jeep is out running it or people hovering in a JSF over the battlefield...not to mention watching attack choppers doing barrel rolls in combat. Tank rounds doing what they should...I fire a sabot at infantry and they are just gonna laugh at my ass as they walk up and strap C4 to tank, but if I fire an HE round...I wanna see bodies flying in a LARGE radius..not watch the guy standing 1m from where the round hit pull out his SRAW and fire it. Ohhh..and WEATHER! Weather that actually affects the battlefield and the players on it...decreased visibility, roads getting slick, mud, snow, ice..wind that has an effect on aircraft and bullets at range.

Spies...uh...no..that just opens up a whole can of griefing issues. And civilians...no...you want that sort of crap play GTA, DiCE doesn't do that sort of crap and I for one appreciate that.

Destructable enviroments...a nice idea but not likely, when you start letting the players redo the terrain you lose any and all control over the flow of the map, and that's just bad juju. Imagine Karkand if we could just blow the buildings down....or Jalalabad....or Oman...or...well...you get the idea, what's a choke point when you can just blow everything to hell and back and level the playing field..literally. Select destroyable objects..that's doable, you can let the players FEEL like they are doing something without letting them screw up the map design This is doable in the current Refractor engine, no reason they can't extend that to other statics in the world, just have to be selective about it...you can even allow for objects to be 'partially' destroyed so that they 'fall' in a specific manner and allow for ladders/ramps to be created to allow access to areas previously unreachable or to create blockages.

Doubt we'll see the more realistic game world though, requires too much skill to play that and that doesn't sell well, twitch gamers HATE that shit...'what do you mean, I have to allow for bullet drop and windage...what is bullet drop and why do I have to wait for someone to fart?'. I actually heard that from a friend of one of my kids when they were playing a game I had that included those things...seriously cracked me up. Kid couldn't deal with the game, but he totally owned my ass in Quake3..go figure.

What I'd really like to see if completely customizeable characters for people to use in a game. I want an M4 that I can add an RIS, flashlight, laser, m203, different optics, different stocks, anything I want basically. And I don't want these things to just be aesthetic. If I add a PEQ-box to my m4, I want to be able to see the laser when I turn on my night-vision goggles. I also want some plate-carrier/harness choices that actually make a difference, and allow pouch configurations and placements which also affect the game. That's my dream game.

I was under the assumption that the developing studio that did Battlefield was on the ropes and was about to be broken up by EA. I had heard a rumor there were not going to be anymore BF games.

You, sir, are a joy kill!

I want to see sometihng more like the Desert Combat mod for 1942, just amp up the graphics, work out some of the bugs, update the armor and weapons, and I think it would be a golden game.

Desert combat had A LOT of the stuff that people are describing here, and if we combined it with the things that make BF2, BF2142, and Call of Duty 4 great, I think we will have a game that is full of epic and win.

BF2 is DC for the most part, DiCE took the better ideas from DC and used them when making BF2..they even hired the folks who made DC to help with concept and design as well as testing. DC was a nice idea but the actual implementation was...well...crap. Wasn't the fault of the folks who made it, it was the fault of the engine they were using, it simply wasn't designed to do what they tried to do, even DiCE couldn't make it do those things, which is why BF:Vietnam had a redesigned engine Personally, I'm partial to PoE for BF:Nam, it did everything for the game that DC tried to do and did it better and they kept it all balanced, something DC was always very bad about(also my biggest complaint with PR, the lack of balance).

Not aware of any problems with DiCE currently, talk about BF3 would indicate that DiCE is still doing well since it's actually from official sources that the original BF3 info comes from

Ahhh, I remember The DC mod for BF2... Hell, I also remember that it became more popular then the actual BF2 standard game! That was by far one of the better mods I've seen

LoL I was thinking that the other day. A MK 19 would be great. It sure would beat the neutered 50cal on the Humvee. Really, the Mi 28 cannon seems about what the MK 19 is in real life. Yes, I did get to shoot one in MCT. No, I was not an 03. I was swinging with the 'wing. You devils on here should get that.

I'd also like the see the snipers or spec ops be able to laser designate targets for Hellfires, might foster more teamwork. Happy belated birthday to you Devil dogs on here!
