    Re: Operation Flashpoint 2

If you want a timeline of how both an ArmA 2 and OFP 2 are being made by different companies, then I can explain.

OFP was developed by Bohemia Interactive and Published by Codemasters.

Then relations between BI and Codemasters went bad and they stopped working together. Codemasters retained the rights to the name OFP.

BI went on to develop the game ArmA basically as OFP 2, but with a new name because the didn't have the rights to OFP.

BI is now working on ArmA 2, which is truly the continuation of OFP since it is the same developers using similar engines.

Somewhere in the mix, Codemasters decided they wanted to make an OFP 2. They didn't develop OFP so they are developing an entirely new engine for the game from the ground up. So it isn't really OFP 2, codemasters just has the rights to the name and are using it. Since it is from the ground up, it is taking longer to develop(hence the later release date).

At least that's my understanding of the situation.

edit: Also, it was decided that having completely dynamic buildings was too data intensive for ArmA 2 on such a big map. So instead of having walls blow up and all that stuff, they divided the buildings into smaller sections that collapse just as they do in ArmA.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was actual game play footage.
me neither. from OFP 1, to Arma.....it always has been in-game engine movies.

    I'm probably gonna buy ArmA2.

Both of these games look pretty good, but I prefer to stick with serious games = PC, fun games = Xbox.

you should buy OFP right now. doesn't matter that the graphics are out of date. that's like saying Moby Dick isn't worth buying because the way it's written is "old".

    Re: Operation Flashpoint 2

    I never played OFP multiplayer.

It's single player made it my favorite First Person Shooter to date. The senerios were written incredibly well. Specifically I still fondly recall crawling thru a forest for 2 hours (real time) avoiding tanks and patroling infantry only to have my objective moved about the time I made it 1/2 way to where I was going.

That and defending a beach against an amphibious assult that also had airborne troops drop in behind you during the retreat from over whemling numbers.

    Those were SWEET to play.

I never got into ArmA tho

This game is going to kill my computer!
The way the gun ejects the bullet casing is so completely unneccessary that I don't understand how a computer built today could possibly play this game with a good frame rate.

Everyone, start saving your money. Two weeks before this game comes out, we will all buy the most bad ass gaming rigs that we can afford and pre-order the game. Then, as soon as it comes out, we give everyone one day to pick it up from the store and then follows a full seven days (make sure that you tell your boss you are going on vacation or something) of full-blown combat. It has been shown that a person can operate indefinitely by sleeping for 20 minutes every 4 hours. I feel that we could extend this to 30 minutes without too much trouble and begin our quest to conquer the game faster than anyone else!

I think they are going to leave planes out of OFP 2 because the island is too small for the planes to be used realistically.
