Looks really nice, it says probably only in Asia, but now I'm really pulling for it to come out in the U.S.

:10 I thought it was funny shit how after all this time, it still looks like the same game with the same maps (i.e. Dust2) Funny shit right there.

Still, nice video and hopefully it'll mean it can expand the game even more.

Question is though, will it slowly replace CS:S the way CS:S is slowly replacing CS 1.6?

And if it does, will TTP switch from CS:S to this new version? Run both?

Can't wait to see where they go with this.

    Re: Counter Strike: Online

Wait, what? You can play Counter-Strike offline? Why would you want to do that? :P

I don't see how you can give a meaningful or interesting plot to a game like Counter-Strike, which is what it sounds like they're trying to do, if they're trying to do CZ2. It wouldn't be hard to come up with a plot, but a good one... well...

And I can't see them making a Counter-Strike 2 or anything like that, since everyone who plays CS seriously says that there aren't any game-breaking balance problems.

EDIT: I think that was a cinematic, Keiron. I can't run Source games at max settings, but I don't think the Source engine is that advanced right now. Then again, they never did say it'd be a Source game.

    Re: Counter Strike: Online

Exactly, it doesn't say it was Source. It just says Counter-Strike Online, meaning it could be independent of the source engine but still use Steam to play.

Just from the looks of it, I'd say yeah it was cinematic, but then again look at games like Gears of War, it's getting harder to distinguish in-game from cinematic in terms of graphics.

Either way, it'll be interesting to see where they go with this since there was no major change from CS1.6 to CS:S. With this, they could add a lot more realism to the game and fix a lot of their shit. And to me, that is a ground breaking balance problem since they are not realistic and they really could be. Make the hit boxes more accurate, maybe add some bleeding effects so if you get shot in the foot, you actually limp like you did in the RS games but more realistic to the point of where you get hit determines the type of penalty you receive.

I'm just hoping though and that is a far stretch since many games right now don't do that when you know they can (again, see the old RS games).

    Re: Counter Strike: Online

They can kindly keep realism the fuck away from Counter-Strike, thanks. If I want to know what it's like to be shot, I'll go enlist in the Army or pick a fight with the Mexican gangs that are beginning to sprout up in the area.

Frankly, realism in shooters makes very little sense to me. Yeah, it's nice to use real-world weapons and mostly be constrained by real-world physics and limitations, but as for bleeding to death, or affecting aim/mobility based on where you've been shot... it makes no sense. A shot to the upper leg could be simply debilitating or it could be lethal, depending on whether or not it strikes the femoral artery. If it misses the artery but shatters the femur, you aren't moving at all. Same with being shot in the chest, and no matter how small the round, being shot in the head is nearly always going to be fatal unless you got shot from a great distance with a small weapon using a small caliber bullet - at least DoD gets it right where head=dead.

At any rate, adding realism like that wouldn't really be Counter-Strike anymore... at least, not as the die-hard fans would see it. Counter-Strike is one of, if not the most, competitively played shooters on any platform, and it's done worldwide. For a new multiplayer entry in the franchise to gain purchase on that level, it probably wouldn't be allowed to deviate too far from the existing standards. I'd expect the next engine update to do little other than improve the graphics and physics.

As for the trailer, I'm pretty sure that's a pre-rendered cinematic. While game engines have begun to reach the point where it can be hard to tell the difference (Crysis, for example), cinematics usually have smoother lighting, textures, and bump mapping compared to in-game engines.

    Re: Counter Strike: Online

I'm not saying add all the realism in, although I think it'd be cool since it is Counter Terrorists vs Terrorists and it'd be neat to see. I'm saying for one, yes fix the current physics so 1 headshot = dead no matter what...well almost since armor might save you from a small caliber weapon. Fix it so if you actually aim for the head, it hits the head, if you are off and aim/hit to the left/right of the head, then you actually miss and not have it register as a HS still. There are a lot of small problems that have annoyed many long time fans of the game that have yet to be fixed, and people just deal with it because they are use to it. If they fixed those problems, I'm sure people would be even more pleased with the game.

There is a lot they can actually do to the game and keep it within the same realm of CS. Hell, add the riotshield back in, just make it so if you throw a nade or 2 at it, it actually does something. They could put vehicles back in, put the rocket launcher back in, the list could go on and on. And you don't have to go that far into the details for getting shot, thats why I said realism, not realistic, meaning it's close but not quite there. I mean, I'd like to have a HE actually kill someone and not just hurt them for 5 dmg or 70 dmg.

And whose to say adding more realism to the game wouldn't make it CS? It's part of the evolution of the game, you can't keep it the same way forever. Believe me, thats why I've been playing CS on and off for so many years. Its fun for a while, but then gets boring and needs something new.

We're getting way ahead of ourselves though as it's just 1 trailer with very limited detail and information. No point in arguing about something that we don't even know will happen or not.

You do realize that this would completely break CS, right? If I remember correctly, nades used to be much more powerful, but they took it out when they realized one nade could eliminate half a team in confined areas. Hell, even now, 3 or 4 nades stacked up is going to kill 5 folks out of double doors (Aztec), or any other places.

As for realism, I'd like to see some ability to move other than walk/run. A gun-down, haul ass sprint could be useful, as well as a peek ability, or sliding into cover.
