Thread: Post-Apocalyptic Games

Recently it seems like about 50% of new FPS developers have started using the post-apocalyptic setting for their games. From my perspective this setting almost outweighs the World War II setting, which makes up the other 50% of FPS's of course...

But seriously, what's with all these post-nuclear, post-alien invasion games lately? What do you think the merits of choosing this setting are? Is it unknowing commentary on the declining state of the world? Is it an attempt to show people what the world can easily become? Or is it just an embellished artistic story telling device? You decide. Then let me know.
