Defense of the Ancient
After a break of a few months from DotA I've found myself dying to play again. Anyone else play or have played DotA in the past? I used to play many leagues and tournaments and eventually became highly ranked in the U.S. and played against some of the best teams in the world.
For those of you who don't know about DotA, it's basically a Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne custom game consisting of 5 man teams where each player controls a single hero.

Re: Defense of the Ancient
I suppose I could join you. As a former developer of DOTA, its the least I could do. btw..im the reason chen has a global heal and mind control(creep domination). So RAWR.
But i probably suck at it now...being a code/map junkie was a lot easier.

I always felt DotA had way too many heroes. A lot of heroes are very weak or otherwise mostly overshadowed by heroes that do many of the same things - I frankly think those weaker heroes should just be removed to condense things.
Last time I played, I was an avid Huskar fan... the HP-as-MP concept was a ton of fun. I would have to say random draft was the most enjoyable game mode, though.

Re: Defense of the Ancient
At the time i was on the testing and development team. Guinsoo (yes the same guy who has the sheep stick named after him) was leading the project and he and I were decent friends. He was introducing some new characters and needed some help with Chen. I suggested giving him some kind of mind control, but in spinoffs of Dota Mind Control on heroes became too powerful. The original mind controller was a Vengeful spirit character who's ult let him control your character for 10 seconds. It often bugged, or the controlling character would make you drop all of your items, etc. Guinsoo modified that idea into the creep domination. The global heal i just thought would be cool, we always used to complain about the lack of a healing class, so that was a pseudo-solution.
In my years as a Dota player and developer, I've seen several people come and go...and honestly, every clan i've been with has gotten bored. I played the first season of TDA and saw that it was nothing but teams who tried to choose the most imbalanced heroes. Personally, im the guy who randoms everything, and still pwns yer face. I remember once going 47-12 with an Enigma...part of the game was a 4v5 then one of their guys left and the rest of my team left...and they had nothing for items. I managed to hold them off long enough for it to get down to a 1v1 and then i smoked the guy. I dont care what items you have, to hold off a 4v1 with enigma is impressive.
But in the end I got bored...and probably suck at it now.

Re: Defense of the Ancient
Very interesting Menoske glad you shared that.
When I began playing TDA I thought this had to be a joke. TDA was easily the worst gaming community I had ever encountered. After a few months of the team stacking, shit talking, community that is TDA a friend of my mine introduced me to the DXD league. DXD was much more enjoyable and I gain a full grasp of the game on a competitive level. Eventually making it to DXDi and beginning to play in LAN tournaments in DFW area.
Eventually my interest in DotA tapered off due several of my friends and teammates having to stop playing or just quitting. Now I'm looking to get back into the competitive DotA scene.
Has be some others here at TTP that play/played DotA or have at least dabbled in it. Would be awesome to have a TTP Dota game or two.
Oh yeah Menoske Enigma ftw
