    Mass Effect from Steam

Does anyone own Mass Effect for the PC? I've been having issues with the game freezing. It continues to freeze up at random points during the first 30 minutes of play. I have yet to make it off the Normandy down to Eden Prime... I read on the ME Steam forums that this is a known issue, but there was no helpful advice about how to fix it beyond what the troubleshooting guide says (which I've done already).

Anyone else who might own this, do you have any tips or tricks to stop the crashing? My system runs the game smooth as silk. I even turned down the graphics to see if it would help, but to no avail.

    Here are my specs:
    AMD 9950 BE
    eVGA GeForce 9800GT
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 Mhz RAM
    M-Audio Revolution 7.1 [Sound card]
    Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit

It could be an issue with converting the game to work with Steam, since it was only released this month through that platform. Checking their forums might help. I haven't installed it yet on my laptop so I haven't run into any problems yet.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Yeah I went through their forums pretty extensively. Apparently this is a widespread issue that has to do with incompatibility of the game with current NVIDIA display drivers. The only fix is to roll back to a pre-17X.XX driver set, which, of course, will hurt the performance of all of my other games...So the choice becomes play Mass Effect or play my other 20 games? Hmm... I think I'll wait for Bioware to get a patch out.

It isn't that long a game if you want to just roll through the main quests, then you could patch up and play other games. When they fix it (If they do) you could always go back and do all the side quests.

I bought it, and returned it the next day. Crashed way to much. Every cut-screen. Not a matter of running it but very poor job of transition from console to pc
