If it isn't that big of a deal, why don't they just keep the price down to say half of what the games are currently selling for? I mean after all you are getting a digital copy anyways and it doesn't have anything physical so why should be have to pay the same price? It should not cost that much buy a game as a digital copy when you don't get all the benefits of getting it in a store. It is convenient sure, but the price should still be lower and they'd still make their sales.

It's not about a lower price. It's about getting more people to try it. A bunch of people on the fence about buying the game bought it. Now they enjoy it and tell friends who didnt buy it. Now they buy at full price. Same with l4d half price alot of people bought it(myself included) They increased their player base tremendously, now with l4d2 coming out, there are more people willing to buy it at launch for full price because the first one was good.
People talk about quality not quanity, in this case its, quanity leads to quality(profit)
