What do you think of the game? It is a free FPS w/ high graphics. I run a Geforce 7300. I run the game on mid settings. On high settings the game looks great. It runs the Unreal engine. I spoke to a couple off TTPer's about giving the game a quick look. This game is available at ijji website

Don't know how I missed this before. From that video, looks pretty good I say. Might have to try to see if I can download it and try it out for myself.

Downloading now. Says it is still in open beta though unless I'm getting an older file.

So far, I'm not liking the hoops you have to go through just to play the damn game. The download file they give you is huge (about 1.5GB) so it takes a while to download. Then once installed, I was like sweet, I'll finally get to play. Wrong. Instead the icon it gives you just takes you to this site for the game where you are forced to create an account there. It started to look like a browser based game. Took it forever to register for some reason. Once I got registered and logged in, I had to download another program so I could launch the game w/o being in a browser. For whatever reason, it doesn't work in Chrome either, but with the other program I had to download it should be fine I suppose. Once I downloaded and had the program installed, I had to update the game client and then I was finally able to play.

It looks like it is P2P crap from what I have seen with lobbies you have to join before getting in on a map. Although I will say it doesn't seem too bad overall once you're loaded, however it took a lot to just be able to play the game and I'm not confident enough to say that this will be a game I think we could all enjoy.

Plus it seems the only way to get voice chat is with the use of XFIRE as the game itself doesn't seem to have any voice chat.

Kind of defeats the purpose though. I understand it is free, but it really cripples a game if there is no VOIP, especially if you hope to have any hope of having a good team based game. And with Vent, you'll have to keep giving out the info to new people in order to be the most effective. It is just a rather large pain in the ass at this point.

    Re: Alliance of Valliant Arms

As much as the graphics and gameplay look pretty badass I am not downloading it for 2 major reasons.

    1. I don't like being forced to download some random proprietary game client downloader/launcher just to play a game. Especially from a company that I know absolutely zero about. I'm really picky about what gets installed on my computer. And I have no way of knowing what the hell ijji REACTOR does, how stable it is, how much sys resources it hogs, and what it reports to the mothership.

    2. I hate free games that exist only to be a vessel for some micro-transaction In-game item store. It's just a giant commercialistic cash cow that developers vomit up so they can get kid's allowance money when they spend it on random shit that dosen't do much of anything. Plus, I doubly hate games where you can't buy the items, you have to rent them for 7 or 30 days. I'm sorry, that is just bullshit. And, to top it all off you could sink $100 into the game and then one day the entire game is shut down because the dev isn't making enough money or just wants to move on.

    No thanks, I'll pass.

... but damn does it look pretty....

    For example:

You have to pay $9 a month for the 'privilege' of changing your cross hair.

$6.20 for the ability to change your in-game nickname. Granted means you can change it forever, but it is the only permanent item for sale.

Plus there is a heavy element of gambling involved: http://ava.ijji.com/shop/shoppinggui...?m=capsuleshop

Well I haven't seen anything that really requires real money. You get money in game for various things. For example, doing the tutorial gives you a one time bonus of like 40k Euros. Ranking up got me another 5k Euros I think. Your weapons seem to be permanent unlocks once you pay for them once. What has durability and needs to be repaired/rebought are items such as armor or special grenades or other tools. To me it seems fully functional w/o paying real money. But then again I haven't played it too much yet.

Plus you aren't really forced to download the launcher that way, it just makes it easier. Although I haven't tested it and might be next on my list. Uninstall the program and see if it'll launch through IE or FF.

What you linked though does appear to be different though from the in-game item shop. Not sure if they are all available the same way then or not.

What sort of modes does it offer? It looks nice, but I'm not a fan of paying real money for gameplay advantages--Especially when it is apparently a pain to even start. Do you get to respawn, and if so, what are the respawn times? Can you get health back?

    Re: Alliance of Valliant Arms

I haven't played since I initially posted due to the new semester, but there are different game modes.

There is one mode/map that is much like CS where 1 side has to plant a bomb and try to get it to detonate while the other side tries to prevent this. The round will end if all members of the opposing side are killed.

There is one mode/map where you are repairing/moving a tank. From what I have seen, the tank itself doesn't fire, it just moves to certain points, kind of like the Push the Cart maps on TF2. However there is a gunner spot on the tank so you can try to protect it. 2 rockets to it will stop it before you have to repair it. In this mode though, you can respawn, and it is usually only a few seconds at a time from what I have seen similar to the BF games, probably nothing more that 10 secs at a time.

Like I said it looks like it has potential, but lacks certain features that are important. For instance it seems to lack an auto-balance and the few times I played it seemed like a few people would leave and make the teams unbalanced one way or another and made it less fun.

As far as I know, you can't get health back at all. I haven't tested much else though so that is all I have to say really for now.
