Thread: AvP servers?

Thats right i do recall AVP 1 having it, but i think it was single players, however i don't recall AVP2 having anything like it

I've never played it, but it is kinda funny. People want it to be like l4d, but then when it's like l4d, they claim "copying" and then won't play it.

Game is $33.49 ATM on steam.


I think I'll wait till it's $20 or less.

Reviews don't seem that great, and I'm still (re) playing through the first one anyway (Which is a meager $5 on steam as well)

Game has lots of team-play potential if we get some TTPers in there. I may pick it up this weekend since it's on sale.

First off, screw steam

Go amazon, i got the game at 26, its now 28, I checked it the other day and it was at 22.
Learn to wait for a the 4 day shipping and save the money for something else.

Okay, yes the game does has teamplay potential, there is even a game mode where teams battle over capture points just like BF2. Survivor, infestation, and team death match would clearly be an amazing experience if there was 18 people working together. The potential is there, thats why I pushed for the server.

But the game is held back by several issues.

The push to talk system suffers greatly from a transmission issue. You must wait 2 seconds after pushing to talk, otherwise what you say goes threw with a stu stu stu stu stu stutter that sucks the life out of what ever you are trying to say because people dont think about the stutter and just yak away. A great way to distract you form whats happening thus leading to being impaled by real illegal aliens.

The map selection is rather limited, 6 maps in all, and people are alreay freaking out about the need to pay for DLC when the games falls on the light side of online content.

The lobby system allows you to mute a players and the lobby lead can give the boot of folks, if they havent fallen asleep at the wheel like they often do, but once in game I haven't found a way to get ride of jackasses who enjoy blasting heavy-throat-death metal over a crappy mic system.

The mic system tends to transmite to everyone so while you maybe able to trash talk the disc spamming pred you just head bit, you can't organize your aliens army to stage sneek attacks because everyone hears what you say for server game modes. *note all but more then it should*

Other then graphics, the game lacks anything new making it a major turn off for folks who aren't avid AVP fans.

The game lacks any good size player base. There are loads of empty player match server but having been out and finding a ranked game was easy weeks ago but is now nothing more then a tubble weed scene.

It doesnt make economic sense for TTP to invest in a server that isn't going to see much in the way of player traffic and won't even hace much of a dedicated player base of TTP regs.

Honestly, the game just can't stand up against todays gaming selection, gears of war, Halo *i just threwup in my mouth a little bit there* CS, BF2, BC2 L4d. The game just doesn't have much of a chance of going anywhere.

I'm a huge AVP fan, i would love to see a TTP server, but what i want doesnt match up with whats best for TTP.

I don't remember, actually, if AVP2 did... but it was multiplayer in AVP1.. or at least it was a LAN type mode.. but if it was for LAN, it was probably online too. Either way it was multi.. I forget what it was called, but you basically faced an ever-increasing onslaught of drones, then more and more Predaliens and Praetorians would come into the mix (maybe even a queen?) the longer you lasted.


It's sad, really, that they couldn't put in some type of Conquest mode.. it's such a basic freakin mode, and it's a popular one (if MAG, BF2/2142/1942/Viet Nam/etc, and other such games are any indication. Hell, it was so popular Lucas Arts did a BF2 knock-off with Battlefront and Battlefront 2), and requires teamwork. It even makes sense from an AVP lore standpoint: The Aliens are smart, coordinated and try to take over everything (so why not a cap point?), Predators think they own everything and know they're the dominant race, Humans KNOW they own everything and Want to be the dominant race. It's just so stupid that it's not a game mode available.

In all fairness Lucas has suffered huge finacial loses with the creation of his 6 part series. So he must strive to make what ever funds he can with the title, whether it's toys, games, clothing, legos, or re-re-re-release of his films with extra super awesome bonus 2 mintunes of extra film. Everyday is a struggle for Lucas, God I hope that man makes some money of his creation.

In all honesty, I'll play just about any game they put out... even the bad ones, on the chance that they'll be good.. and some are fantastic: KOTOR 1 and 2, Republic Commandos (if only it wasn't so fuckin short), Empire at War (and expansion), the Lego games... yes the Lego games, The Force Unleashed (loved it), both Battlefronts, there was some Jedi game I can't recall the name of that I thought was cool, even the console game of Ep 3 was pretty decent.
