yes, the first one is absolutely worth playing, especially if you get it on sale. Currently it's $19.99 on Steam, but it will likely go down between now and the release of the sequel. The demo is very representative of the game as a whole, if you enjoyed that, you'll like the full game.

It sounds like it's PvE and not PvP from everything I've read. spaz, it's definitely worth it. If you were a fan of the Diablo series, this definitely has the same feel (which isn't hard to believe since half the folks from Blizzard who made Diablo and Diablo II made this game. At $20, it's already a good deal , but it frequently gets the 50% off treatment.

Keep in mind that Diablo 2 is also like $20 these days. So if you get Torchlight on sale, you're definitely getting a good deal, assuming you want to play Diablo. IMO Diablo 2 is still way better than Torchlight, but $20 for such a old game is a little silly.
