I think the root of most of Civ5's problems comes from the fact that it was modeled after CivRev, the very simplified console version that came out a couple years. I didn't have many problems with CivRev, it was dumbed down broadly instead of specifically, so it worked and moved rather smoothly. I think they tried to change things too specifically for Civ5, and it feels like the bastard lovechild of console and PC 4X games.

Trying to play my first huge map and it's more waiting for next turn than anything else.
By the time its my turn I have forgotten what I was planning to do.
With a quad core.
Guess I'll try to play a huge using dx 9 and see what the diff is.
Also, anyone else extremely confused about the rate at which social policies are aquired? This game is my longest and I have got liberty all unlocked with one unlocked in honor. In 1760.
And the negotiation table.....when I'm done, why is the "finished" button called "back"?
Not finished, not done, not exit....back.
"Back" sounds like i'm not done and will go back to negotiations, but it exits the negotiation screen.
