Civilization III

So I was/am getting kind of bored with my current games and don't have money to buy a new one, so I delved into my desk to see what I had. Lo and behold I come across Civ. III. I used to play this game a few years back when it first came out, but it was before I understood the concept of "strategy" in any game such as this, so ergo I'm essentially new to the whole Civ game series.

I am huge fan of the Age of empires series, and while I know Civilization isn't exactly similar, it still has some similar features in it. Anyone here have any basic tips for me as I get started? I don't plan on playing online either.

Similarly I found civ 4 on my shelf and installed that over the weekend as well. It is also my first time with the civ games. Not too much advice to give on my end yet, other than just getting in there and learing what's what

never played III so can't help much there, if it was IV I wrote a few articles in the strategy forum (if it is still stickied) that may help. I meant to do more but got kind of distracted and never got back to it. They might help a bit in III but again don't know the big differences, so not sure if it will apply to III.

not that shocking, I've spent 4-5 hours playing Civ IV without realizing it

Kinda reminds me of playing Age of empires for 6 hours without knowing it.....the good ole days.

I also love playing games back from the early 2000's on today's PC's.....I remember games like this taking forever to install (patches also), now I put the CD in and 10 seconds later I have the game and patch installed. =D
