Then you haven't used it recently. In no way shape or form does Steam have a better voice chat then Xfire. Sorry, but the quality difference is atleast 150% better on Xfire.
Me: "But the Gunslinger is so much more fun..."
Langrad: "We're here to win, not to..."
Me: "Have fun?" "Hahaha"

You really can't say one is better than the other though as it matters on more than just the application. It is the same deal with Ventrilo and Teamspeak. People will swear up and down Vent is better while others will swear TS is better. It is harder to judge since it isn't just the app that affects performance. Sound card and headphones/speakers will make a difference so we really shouldn't be using it for a comparison anyway in that regard.

Xfire saves the video files to your hard drive as uncompressed AVI files. These, if you set the settings in xfire, are the same quality as what is sent to your monitor while you actually record. The quality is killed when you use Xfire's converter to put it online. Try converting the AVI files(which you will need a codec pack for) to a .wmv or whatever you want using any other converter(Windows Movie Maker, AutoGK, whatever else...). You will see vast improvements.

Why not use both? Neither take up a whole lot of memory when running, and when one is down, the other is up. I run both all the time on an aging system have no performance problems related to either.
Xfire has features that Steam doesn't
Steam has features Xfire doesn't.
I wished a while back that Steam and Xfire would become compatible with each other. Xfire has a customization aspect, while Steam has a stronger community aspect. Xfire works with all games, including the ones you can't buy on Steam, while Steam will only work PROPERLY with games you buy with it.
My point is that there's no need to put a nail in either's coffins. I only wish they could work together better."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
