    SQUARE down

    FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

Square (the gaming company) has shut down due to the stuff going on in japan. this has sparked up an interesting debate in a few message boards (allakhazam mostly) about the subscribers money. Square currently has 2 different games that are subscription games (final fantasy 11 and 14) both of which are completely down. The reason Square is down is to conserve electricity, not because they themselves were hit. So on one side of the table you got people saying its cool and they need to mourn and all this other stuff. other side of the table is saying... are we gonna be reimbursed for the time we paid but cant play?

pretty interesting in my opinion. thought id share

Not really surprising. Both have valid arguments really though. Legally I'd think if they aren't providing the service they were paid to supply, they should be able to reimburse or cancel those subscriptions until they are back up and running.

At the same time though it is a major disaster that hit Japan. I'd probably be more worried about the people than my money.

Giving the money back for the days it is down would probably be best imo, include in that some people could/will use that money to donate to help the people of the Japan.

Maybe they can give their users the option for compensation back for days missed, or Square can donate that money to the relief effort?

Here's how I see it. It's a business. When you run a business you should be prepared for anything that would cause you to stop servicing your customers (no I don't mean earthquake proof but pr and customer relation proof).

If I'm running a business and you are paying me for something. I do not expect youto pay or want to pay me if 1/4+ of it is taken away. SE should have added in their original message what they plan to do in regards to billing.

Also SE billing is kinda retarded to begin with. They charge you an additional 1usdollar for every character you have. Also imis explained to be a few months ago that their billing cycle starts on the 1st of the month no matter when u subscribed. So if you start playing on the 29th of the month you will be billed for a full month on the 29th and a full month 3-4 days later.
