Re: Diablo 3 beta
I'm pretty sure there is no "single player".
You can play by yerself online (in fact you can only have 4 people total in a given game.
The 'multiplayer' is the exact same as the 'single player' game, just you can have people join up with you to play the game. There's no need for a pause, if you complete a quest, it's done whether you log out or not. When you log back in, you can go on to the next quest.

Re: Diablo 3 beta
I am certainly buying Diablo III and playing the ever loving piss out of it. Real-Money markets strike me as only a good thing to be honest. Other games have done it quite successfully (sad, but MapleStory was the first game I saw do this). Regular items are cheap, but simply save you the hassle of farming/trading if you want to spend some real money for them. Rare items can cost a bit more (like $5-10) and godlike items can become quite expensive.
If you want to play the game at a high level but do not have the time to dedicate to farming endlessly for items, this cash market is a freaking great way to do it. Not to mention that the person who does supply the items is not being forced to add them to the market. It's their decision to place that item on the market and it's your decision to purchase it.
As the average age of gamers continues to rise, expect more of this type of market scheme. It only makes sense from a business perspective. Millions of gamers with full time jobs(less time, but they have money) and credit cards(easiest way to purchase in this market) and the desire to play at a competitive level.
Oh btw, Diablo III > Torchlight 2 without a doubt. Torchlight 2 is not going to have the same polish/balance that Diablo III will or a cinematic that looks like this
