11-18-11, 05:28 PM #1Skyrim: Character aid
Ok so I am looking to create a silent killer sort of rouge character. I have started but just made it to the village last night and called it so I could wake up for work. But now after I get home from dinner for my mother's 50th Birthday I am going to start my vacation through Thanksgiving. So advice? I have been using the IGN skill builder but I am slightly overwhelmed.
Is my character archatype possible? I don't want to do knives as I want to be the distance killer. Quietly approach, quietly kill and quietly leave. I'd like to be able to pick locks and such as well, which goes hand in hand with pickpocketing, should I worry about speech?

A stealth character who uses archery works just fine. Hitting enemies while stealthed with an arrow doesn't always reveal you, but they will move toward where the arrow came from. Quitely killing and then leaving isn't always going to be possible though, so I would reccomend having so sort of melee weapon with a shield or by itself so you can block swings. Illusion magic might work well also, from the fear/pacificy spells to moving quietly for the super sneak.
Pick pocketing and lock picking are seperate also. Barring the super difficult locks i can do most of it manually without any talent points in the lock picking tree, although i can't do master level doors.
And remember to use your racial power, it can make all the difference. Unless you're an elf, then you probably deserve what's coming.
One other thing, pick up lesser ward for when you fight against a dragon, using it before the breath will negate 100% of the damage and save your life. Use it at the same time and the breath will break your shield and you'll probably die a painful death.
And followers will probably fuck with your stealth killings, though i haven't tried it. I struggle to get Lydia to sit fuckin' still when I start a fight and try to bring them to a choke point, so you may need to go solo. Not sure I reccomend that for the larger fights against dragons or the Draugyr wights and deathlords and such. Boss mobs essentially.
And always remember your racial daily power, it can make all the difference. And look for the different constellation stones(warrior, thief, mage, etc) The others have some pretty significant powers.
Have fun with your play through.

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
Yeah that's fine JBMCW. Winter is right with in saying that kill quietly and get away will not always work. There are going to be enemies that will require 15+ arrows to kill, and there is no way you are going to remain stealthed that entire time.
The Stealth "tree" is great (anything in the green sky/mist/cloud whatever it is in the skill menu). However, I would avoid spending too many points in both pick-pocketing and lock picking at the same time. Unless you are planning on stealing things off of random citizens in town, pick pocketing is almost useless
If you don't like using any melee weapons I would suggest getting conjuration, this way you can summon a monster to distract your enemy while you shoot it to death with your bow.
Honestly this game is quite forgiving/easy in comparison to Morrowind/Oblivion. I beat the campaign and became master of the college of magic quite easily with a character that would not have been able to do jack shit in the older games (I was pure mage, destruction, restoration, and alteration).
If something appeals to you I say go for it, don't be overly technical about your build. This game is forgiving enough that it doesn't really matter anyway. Have fun!

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
Don't put any points in lockpick(unless you really want the 50% loot chance)...just leveling it up is enough to take care of all locks, I have no trouble even with master locks
Speech is great to get up to the perk where you can sell any loot to any merchant
I got pickpocketting up to the Extra Pockets(+100 Carry cap) and I guess you could go a bit higher, I've never had a problem pickpocketting
I suggest you focus(perks) on Archery and a lot of Sneak at the start...and join the Thieves guild cause they have a lot of stealth trainers
But like Raush said, go for whatever you want. Unless you play on Master the games forgiving.Last edited by SpiritOfF1re; 11-18-11 at 09:10 PM.

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
I am building a sneaky character, too.
Light Armor, Sneak, Single Handed and Archery.
With the right perks you can get massive sneak attack bonuses with single handed and bows... I am killing lots of things in one hit now while stealthed...
I am building out the archery and sneak trees the most with single handed and light armor only barely. Light armor gets pretty good though

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
I can kill a giant w/one arrow sneak+bow, I never have to use a melee weapon, shoot i use my bow in melee. my bow is like 92 and sneak is 99. +35% bow dam head +30% dow dam ring 35% bow damage on gloves max on all the good bow skills.
I dont really wear any sort of armor, im wearing the dark botherhoods robes atm like 24 ar. I never get hit. you can kill your mobs at distance or hit and sneak.
you really have to make your own items, cause if you wait for random drops its gonna be forever. so get your enchantment high so you can craft high % weapons/items. i got a 25 shock eb bow, and crafted all my other gear.
im level 28, mostly 60% stam 40% health.
tbh i really cant wait to start another char.

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
I mixed my character up a bit to much I think. I can handle whatever is thrown at me but not getting anywhere near 1hit kills. Just started upgrading my enchanting skill but dont know if I have enough skillpoints to get the blacksmithing skills needed and enchanting... And still be able to maximize one handed damage.

Re: Skyrim: Character aid
Sneak? lol what is that?
by choosing a nord character I wanted to create a kind of berserk character, and I do just fine. I wouldn't have the patience to engage targets in a sneaky way
Got my smithing skill at 90 earlier today, and I have a full set or Deadric armor with deadric axe and shield. The game is now on super-easy mode...
