Re: TPG Banner Contest
If you do not want to change the logo why have a banner contest in the first place? There is not reason to as all the entries look like rehashed versions of the current thing we have up there that will come up when you switch the page. Why are we giving out prizes to something that isn't designed to change?
The issue with the design right now is not that there is a logo it is that the logo takes up the entire banner, MAKING it the banner. This contest was always a time of moving forward; remember when the first one to use transparency came around? That was so sick right? But how did he do that? He made some portions of the text big and made the other portions smaller to scale the important interesting things of the name and put awesome art to it. It was what signified that TPG is getting better, it brought everyone together to marvel at the amazing new picture at the top of the site and showed us what our community could do.
No I do not proclaim I am good at business, nor have a taken any classes specific for it yet other than the high school economics which isn't boast able. But since when has that ever had any say in an arguement? If you are going to beat what I say beat it by using your experience to explain why it is better, not why your experience means you're right. I know you walker we get along a lot but come on man 70% of the banner is "logo". I could understand if people were allowed to change the teamplayergaming words and leave the "TPG" with the 2 stick figures looking different ways one with a bandanna around his head kneeling.
Fact #1: TPG is a community Fact #2: Most people know us by the text "Teamplayer gaming" in the servers. The logo only supports this by putting "Teamplayer gaming" directly in the logo. People will still love it if it looks different, hell who knows maybe someone might come around and make something better.
If I'm going against the grain, sorry, but this is pointless if we are just making another backdrop for our banner to change to when we click a new page.........
Art http://www.teamplayergaming.com/artw...st-2007-a.html I remember it.
The one thing I remember most about TTP is "No one stands alone" I lazer ingrained it into wood at tech class back in high school because it was so memorable. I miss our slogans....

My 2 pennies, spend them how you wish.
I have some pretty strong feelings about this, but I am sure that regardless of how I try to word them it will come off as me trying to stick it to the man, which is not my intent at all. I like, respect, and admire bigdog, and most of the other high/web admins. I know the difficulties that you face, and I don't belittle them.
All that being said from 2005 until the name change it seems decisions were made based on what the community thought was best, and because of that the community grew. Since the name change, and even including it, decisions seem to be made based on what corporate America thinks is best/most marketable, and based on what I can tell some ideas have worked, and others not so much.
Yes, I know, my post isn't necessarily about the logo in and of itself. I feel that the decision about the logo is made based on the larger goals for the direction of the community/site, so I commented more about that.

Re: TPG Banner Contest
I see what you're getting at civil but I think it would be better worded as the community content is less run by the community. The more businessy things are being run by the smart people which I love and all.
My beef isn't about anything too against the grain, I just thing the purpose of having a banner contest is defeated when you are making the same exact banner that is already up there. Either you have a banner contest and use it as your new banner or you don't. Simple as that. If you want businessy logo never change it, then do that and no more banner contests. If you want it to change and be better than it is now to get a fresh new feeling to the site, then continue with the banner contest and pull back the leash on the artists.
Simple, strait forward, and understandable.
As for why do I think contests exist: As I've previously stated, contests exist to make things better. There is no reason or respectable ROI out of asking an audience to find a different scene from a game and make a backdrop out of it.

Re: TPG Banner Contest
Yes contests can be to make things better or to see who is better, etc.
This contest is a way of getting the community involved, a way for us to give say on what we see everyday, meaning the banner background. It is a way of keeping the banner fresh with new images. In essence, making it better rather than letting it get stale. Asking the audience to find different scenes from a game and making a backdrop is what we have always done with this contest. The only difference is the logo stays unchanged.
It is also a means of trying to prompt traffic to this site.

Re: TPG Banner Contest
It will look the exact same if you don't change more of it. The banner as it is right now is set to change backdrops whenever you switch a page. This means that people aren't focusing on the backdrop, it is irrelevant because it is unimportant to watch the backdrop as it is part of the original banner.
The way I see our banner as it is right now is that it isn't multiple banners with different backdrops it is one banner that swaps backdrops situationally. It is much like your signature right now. What I see right now is a swirl changing colors, the changing colors doesn't make it new, it just adds color to the picture.
Asking the audience to find different scenes from a game and making a backdrop is what we have always done with this contest.
I may have been on a hiatus last year but I damn well remember how the banner contest went because that was my favorite time of the year. Not only is this banner contest different it is making people produce content that looks completely irrelevant and indifferent. IE Nothing unique is out there, meaning that there is no reasonable way to make a decision on who can get the headset.

Re: TPG Banner Contest
I would assume that the TPG part of the banner is the logo.. Everything else is just substance. Why not have the contest with a set banner size and incorporate the TPG part of the logo The Teamplayergaming.com and formerly texas teamplayers part should have no bearing on this contest as it's not the logo..
IMO this is the logo... This is the part that shouldn't be changed.. The rest imo is just substance..
