Suggestion: L4D2 Auto-Updater

I'm guessing it would save the High Admins and players a ton of time if we looked into this function for our servers. It is a pain to have to post every time our servers need to be updated and I'm sure its a pain for the High who updates them. It would save us both a lot of time.

I'm going to do some looking and asking around to see where to begin, but if Enf or another High knows where to start, that would be even better. Thanks.

steam servers on linux have an auto update feature provided by valve...

There was some windows tool that we were looking at a while back for auto updating... Can't remember why we never used it...

I would love to play custom campaigns, it gets kind of boring after a while playing the same map.

The problem you run into with auto-updating is that sure, the server code gets updated, but Valve is infamous for breaking compatibility with MM/SM with updates, which renders the server unusuable or unstable and can impact other servers running on the same box due to the server getting stuck in a crash/restart cycle. The updaters don't update MM/SM.

Reinstalling the L4D2 servers will take some time. Mainly re-downloading the massive amount of content they've made available. You'll need to find a high who has the hour(s) of time it'll take to reinstall and reconfigure the servers. Speaking for myself, I don't really have the time, nor the knowledge to re-configure the servers if you want all the mods/functionality.
