02-25-16, 11:27 AM #33Re: Ad Free Experience
I turn off ads for a few days, and check back after that. If you want the frequency, you can check my posts in the bad ads thread. Sometimes it's not even how many bad ads I see as the page gets redirected. Those are mainly for the redirects or ads that get my antivirus upset.
Then, there's the audio ads. I turn it off for a few days with those. I'm the type to open multiple tabs at once with every new thread, scan them to see if I care, and then read them if I do care. The ads are loud when they happen. Even if they only happen on one tab, it hurts. I'm sensitive to sound. Sometimes, the audio ads would be playing even if there was no audio ad in any of the ad spots making finding the fucker more trouble then I cared to deal with. I've never been a web guy except out of desperation. Again, I check after a few days.
There are also video ads that have in the past also looped indefinitely with every repeat of the clip. Same problems as the audio clips with the added "bonus" of the webpage refocusing on the ad if it's off screen even if I mute/pause them. You know how fucking annoying that was when I was editing articles especially ones where I practically had to rewrite the entire article correcting grammar and format? So, again off for a few days.
Look, when I started using Disconnect, I tried targetting specific ad vendors, but I could never pinpoint the source. So, to be able to actually view the site for pleasure or for my responsibilities, I'd turn ads off completely. Haven't had to in a while. Ads have also not even been noticeably delaying load times even, which is just an added bonus. The only time I turned off ads due to those load times was when the ad free experience was available and I subscribed to that.
Try and understand that I am going to always be more reasonable than a normal site user. I can see threads like these. I will always make an attempt to see if I can whitelist again. Normal users don't see administrative forums. They don't see the majority of threads where the actual changes get discussed (web admin/High admin forums) or at least know that something is up like I can with Site Mod.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

And, TBH, the last several years, I've only been doing an immediate blacklist if bad ads of any type happen with regularity. I haven't blacklisted for one offs.

Re: Ad Free Experience
One tip for chrome users... Right click the tab you have TPG on and choose "mute tab". Like I said I haven't seen/heard an audio ad in quite a while but if you absolutely cannot have that (audio ads), chrome lets you completely mute a tab without muting everything now.
