HELP: L4D install from disk win7 64 bit compatibility issue

I bought L4D in store from EB Games and am trying to install it from disk on my windows 7 pro 64 bit machine. As soon as the disc loads this error pops up:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version fo the program, and then contact the software publisher."

The same happens when I click on the setup.exe in explorer.

I have tried running it in compatibility mode for both Vista and XP and as an administrator with no luck. Installing it in Steam via the disc does not work.

Apparently you can activate your cd key and download it through steam and that will work however that is not really an option for me as I do not have the bandwidth or the downloads to do this. I'm all out of options.

I know there are others with the exact same issue but it seems a solution is yet to be found (by me anyway!) Does anyone know how to fix this so I can install from the disc?

Sorry, I must have missed this one. Did you ever get it sorted out?
