    Theres a lot of topics on various forms about it, since without it enabled, there is a huge exploit/hack vulnerability. I'm not sure why valve just didn't lock all the textures with a default setting since I can see no legitimate reason that anyone would need to modify those files. The answer that I found on the steampowered forums was that they wanted to leave it up to the admins of the servers similar to running VAC or not running it.

    Wow. That one is news to me... Even though we usually don't have much trouble with hackers, this would help keep everyone just a bit more honest.

    I think we should definitely consider enabling it.

    I was always under the impression that having it enabled would cause some lag and prevent any type of modifications including UI's from working. However if this is not the case and enabling it wouldnt cause any problems.. and would help filter out some hackers.. then im all for it. I dont see a reason not to have it enabled if there is a way to customize it like Icon states.

    Personally i dont have anything customized because im a CSS nub when it comes to customization and such. Basically anything you cant adjust in the settings... ive never messed with... lol

    According to the valve developer site it doesn't have any impact on the game (match servers use sv_pure with no adverse effect as well as numerous public servers), just a slightly longer load time for the client IF the files that are allowed are checked. If they are not checked and only forced to be loaded from the steam cache then it doesn't have any effect on load time and in either circumstance the game play isn't changed or lagged since its done while the game loads, not after joining. Since the whitelist is easily modified to allow GUIs and UIs as well as skins and models, legit players wont even notice that sv_pure is enabled, just the hackers.
