in case anyone ever wanted to know, and 3.89, this may be handy information, the :27017 portion is the destination port number used when connecting to the server. the 74.52.41.164 is the IP address of the server. ping/traceroute are icmp based tools. icmp doesn't use ports.

yes. some paranoid network administrators will block the ICMP messages that allow you get accurate traceroutes. your case looks to be an example of it.

other than it's an aggie route, it seems fine

seriously, i see nothing wrong in this trace. it could be sparatic, which is the worse problems to diagnose. next time you see in-game problems, like high-ping, or lag, take another and post it.
