The shield you see is the Guardian ability "Aegis", it is a magic shield that essentially blocks the next attack coming in at you.

Yeah i liked that effect. It appears randomly. My character looked like someone out of Soul Caliber with the 2h sword. i played for about a hour or so this morning and got to lvl 11 and got a even better 2h sword. I definitly believe my first character when the game comes out will be Guardian.

Well after trying hard all weekend to like the Mesmer ... I don't. I feel they are even worse off than they were during bwe1. They felt off before, but now they feel way off to me. Maybe it was all the time I spent playing Mesmer in gw1, or even Enchanter in EQ1, but for an "illusionist and trickery" type magic user they seem to get the illusions all over the place ... and lack the trickery necessary to be useful with *most* of their skillset. Changing clones to not doing ANY damage while they were out was a huge detriment to the profession and I hope they figure that out. Their utilities are weaker now because more than a few of them now summon illusions and clones who, guess what, don't do damage. I could understand the reasoning if they did something else (some still debuff and protect and whatnot) but others just get summoned and do nothing. MMO 101 says if you have an ability, there needs to be a reason for me to use it or I won't.
On the other hand I became almost obsessed with the Necromancer I was playing. The Charr story was entertaining, and I felt useful from the get go. I did a handful of sPvP matches and spent some time in WvWvW on her as well. I think I accounted for myself well, with a few 1v1 kills and some objective capping in WvW and my highest sPvP game yet (over 200 points by my name at the end.) The Necromancer feels very balanced and has a lot of survivability tricks up her sleeve right now.
I was going to test some things on the Elementalist just to be thorough with the scholar classes, but I kept having this weird bug where I'd lose 3-5k maximum HP when I joined a sPvP match. I never changed my gear, or my attunement, when joining. After a few matches of having only 13k hp when i should have closer to 20, I put him aside, made a bug report, and moved on.
I did a little playtime on my Guardian and my Engineer as well, but didn't notice any changes on their part and was still pleased with how they both played. Next bwe I plan on playing these two classes and the Necromancer exclusively while I try to narrow down what i'd like to main when the game launches.~The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all worlds. Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend June 8-10
So I tried out Ranger for a lot of this weekend(when I wasn't playing GW1) and I really liked it, I may like it better than War which was my main in GW1 I just don't like the melee in this game, when also liking the changes to ranged. Also Ranger 1h Sword is my favorite melee weapon to use. I really hate the effective level thing and also the weapon skill thing, it just makes it so there's more skills on my bar than I'll use cause there's always at least 1 skill that I hate on the bar, and one of those skills is just basic auto attack.
PS: IWAY is boss. Same with Troll Unget.

I was having problems targeting enemies too. In the first game i would just cycle through the enemies by pressing tab, and when I found one I would just elementalist spike him till death. This one was a little different because TAB wouldn't always go to the enemies I wanted. For example. I'd press tab and get a crimson moa. The bird would be passive till I accidentally launched a fireball at it, then it would want to attack, and when I'm fighting a group already this extra enemy is now a problem. ADDITIONALLY, Tab wouldn't get me my enemy without it being on screen. Which is ridiculous because, realistically, I could target an enemy without seeing it because I could hear it or feel it or whatever. Hopefully this will be fixed or I was just missing the new 'target nearest enemy' button. Elementalist was cool as heck to play with. I also would like the zoom features to be updated.
Words are only limited to the effable, while the indescribable is merely found within ourselves.
