    Any SWG Vets?

    SWG - Star Wars Galaxies

Sort of a SW fan (I don't have a Vadar costume or any shit like that) but loved the movies growing up so back in 2003/4 I bought the game and had alot of fun playing it. Some where along the lines they changed it by bringing in the new NGE (New Game Experience) and then it sucked so I quit. My guess is the game was too complex for Sony to maintain it and they wanted to dumb it down for the younger gen who thought the game was to difficult to play and said it needed a Star Warsy feel to it.

Just wondering if anyone here used to play it back in the day and enjoyed it or plays now etc...

There is a site out now that Bioware has made that states they are in development with Lucas Arts on making a ground breaking entertainment package. Looks interesting.

Back in the day. I played before anyone could be a jedi, then anyone could start as a jedi and I quit.

that sounded really negative. let me say that the admin community on that game was amazing! they actuality played the game (sometimes with you) and cared. Up until the next to imposable tasks to become a jedi were nerfed to the extent that you could just log on and be a jedi.

Yea, I logged more hours into that game than any other mmo... Then came the jedi's and they ruined it. It wouldn't have been so bad to have jedi's in the game, just don't make them the be-all end-all that nothing else can compete with.

    Cool.

I too played basically when the game first came out. Before Combat Upgrade and before they made Jedi's a starting profession. The game's complexities and uniqueness made it great. That is before the NGE (The upgrade you guys are referring to) came and ruined the game - to make it more WOWish.

I came across this and thought it was interesting...

Pretty neat, looks like some are trying to rebuild the game the way it was meant to be.

I also played a wookie before jedi's became a starting class. I played that while I was a government contractor over in the middle east, so pretty much every free minute I had while I wasn't in Iraq I spent playing that game.

I beta tested it and played for about 2 months after it went gold. It was buggy and the combat system was awful. Crafting was about the only fun thing and we all know how fun crafting is after about an hour...

It was a great concept that was executed poorly. I'm waiting for the BioWare Star Wars MMO...

I played SWG for a while on Flurry. Was a big time crafter... not that I remember crafting anything since you could do a circular ingame macro and have it craft anything for you.

Had a bounty hunter/combat medic/rifleman on Chilastra up until they released the NGE. Turned him into a pure Jedi killing machine after they changed the requirements to become a Jedi and you couldn't throw a rock without hitting some tool waving a lightsaber around. Was also one of the few BHs with a portable BH mission terminal. I'd spend hours upon hours on the trails on Kashyyk (sp?), making life as miserable as possible for all the Jedis hiding there.

That was pretty much the only fun thing about the game for me at the time, so it makes sense that they'd have to ruin it by releasing the NGE. I'd just gotten over the CU and was beginning to enjoy the game again, but nope, can't have people having fun now, can we?
