I'm happy to pay 15 dollars a month to have fun. In my eyes, it's worth it. When it stops being fun, it stops being worth it, and I stop paying.
That is a good motto I try to use as well when I play games. If it is free great, even better. If I have to pay to play, I'll play it as long as it is fun. When I quit WoW, BC wasn't even out yet but with all the raiding my guild was doing and the prep work we had to do, it was more like a 2nd job that I was paying for instead of getting paid to do, so I quit. The PvP in WoW lost interest for me once BGs came out and very few if any real world PvP occured so that was out of the question. And at the time making a new character wasn't interesting enough at the time, thus I quit.

Simple math and reasoning really. I don't think a lot of people see it that way though.

    Yup.

I just finished BioShock and enjoyed the hell out of it, but according to my Steam profile page, it only took me 16 hours to do so. I'll be playing through again, saving all the Little Sisters this time instead of eating all of them, but it probably won't take another 16 hours since I know where everything is and won't have to spend much time searching. Granted, I got BioShock for $5 while it was on sale, but it's usually $15... and it was $50 when it was new.

On the other hand, I play at least a couple hours of WoW most every day and generally enjoy those two or three hours. Aside from an expansion pack once every 18 months or so, it's $15 for probably close to 60 hours of fun every month... not bad. Hell, cheaper than go out boozing once a week - you can drop $30 on drinks and not even get tipsy.

That's because drinks can be assly expensive, like $5 per drink.

I'm glad I'm not much of a drinker anyways because it is expensive. :3

I remember when I quit WoW and afterwards thought about all of the money I had sunk into it since it released. I came to the realization that for all of that money, I have nothing to show for it after I quit. Five years of $15 a month, plus any other fees (Transfers, etc) really adds up. Frankly, I might have spent more initially on the PC games, but the brilliant thing is, I have only paid once for them. Their fun to dollar ratio can only go up over the years

Yeah, but how many times have you gone back and played through those games after the first couple of times? How many times have you bought a game at full price, played through it once, then never touched it again?

And you could always sell your account if you really were done.

yeah, I've spent tons on games I played through once and then quit, I've had games bought for me even that I played through once and then quit..... even when it's not my money it sucks getting a couple weeks worth of fun out of them.... to each there own really, and who are you to degrade it?(not you, but dont feel like quoting those that have) Usually it's the people who were to weak to this game, and let it take them over, who are you to tell those that play it at leisure that it's bad for anyone? really.... it gets old

my biggest problem with WoW was, pretty much i tried it after having played AO for a couple months (best free MMO btw), the leveling was too simplistic. Don't like the "fire arrow, gain bow skill" system. I like more like you see in alot of RPGs where you invest points in different skills, talents etc.

Otherwise it was a decent game

Re: World of Warcraft 10 free days

I bought Dawn of War 2 for like $20 bucks and got maybe 15 hours of playtime out of it. I doubt I'll ever play it again.

I bought UT3 for about $20 and got maybe 10 hours of playtime out of it. I might play it again if a good mod comes out for it, but the core game itself... no thanks, I don't like playing Gears of War: UT-style.

I spent $80 on the WoW collector's edition, another $40 or so on the first expansion, and got the second expansion for free. I pay $15 a month to play it, sure, but the amount of time I've played it would probably be embarrassing if I tallied it all up.

Honestly, there aren't many other games I can attribute that to... maybe UT2k4, and that's probably about it.
