If you like grindfest well you can sorta do that to get rich, if you don't you only have to pop on for a few minutes every couple days and you won't be left behind your friends who have almost no lives. It is a game in which the weak shrivel and die or learn to hide well and get rich.

Lag can be a bit of an issue but what do you expect when single world can have over 50k people playing at the same time, and there can be fights with over a thousand participants. The one good thing about EVE's lag is that CCP the company who produces it is actively working on keeping it in check with actual results.
EVE is fantastic, absolutely fantastic, I can't say enough about how awesome a game it is.

I've heard it described as just having another job in which you pay the company, rather than them paying you :P

Re: 10 reasons to hate an MMO

I hate the WoW clone statement since WoW copied a large portion of its UI style from Everquest 1. WoW is obviously more popular, but for its day EQ1 was the king of the ring and had little competition with the exception of Ultima Online, which had a different perspective entirely in regards to UI and gameplay.

Jumpgate was also out at this time, which is more like an MMO of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter or perhaps Freelancer. It is now preparing for a sequel.

Most fantasy MMOs use a similar GUI because they want to entice players from the old standbys into their games. Exceptions have been things like Runescape and Dungeons and Dragons online, though the later still incorporates a few things like hotbars, but has a real time combat system.

I think as the internet becomes faster and large downloads become easier to obtain we will see less and less use of box games in regards to MMOs and some more experimentation into alternate paying methods or perhaps even some alternate gaming methods completely.
