Guild Wars 2 vs WoW vs Old Republic

So will we finally see the downfall of the WoW MMO User dominance in 2012?

Alot of game news companies have deemed Guild Wars 2 one of the most anticipated MMO of 2012 along side Old Republic?

Guild Wars 2 is your Free subscription base game so I'm definately preordering it. Old Republic is $15 a month to play.

Which one will win Guild Wars, World of Warcraft or Old Republic

I never liked guild wars. Tried to get into it but just didn't like it. I played the SWTOR beta all weekend and loved it! Especially the way you craft things with your crew mates doing it while you continue questing and killing shit. I just hope they will add more races and a few more classes as it progresses.

I know you have to pay for SWTOR but I also feel that the updates and fixes you get with SWTOR will be that much better than guild wars 2 updates. Also not sure if this changed or not but guild wars made you go into instances by yourself and the only place you interacted with people was in towns, did they change that?

WoW is like counter strike. it might get a dip in traffic but eventually it will come back on its feet. and with pandas.

WoW will probably be around until they come out with their next mmo (wow:source?) just like cs

They both look solid. I just played the weekend beta of TOR and I gotta say it is very well done. The voice acting is great and quests definitely feel more engaging and interesting. Blizzard is hard at work to a successor for WoW so my feeling is even if these games develop a good fanbase it's gonna be hard to contend when that bomb drops. They have a few good years ahead of them though. We'll have to see how
    It all pans out.

Re: Guild Wars 2 vs WoW vs Old Republic

Sort of a pointless post really.

Every new mmo that comes out claims to be the nail in the coffin to WoW...yet here we are.

I played them all with the high hopes. Warhammer, Aion, FFXIV...etc... always fails.

That said, I AM super excited for Guild Wars 2, so don't get me wrong!

But....I don't think anyone can claim dominance to that degree anymore. Generally speaking gamers are more branched out in the online realm than ever before, WoW sort of broke the mold for mmos becoming more mainstream and accessible to your average gamer...don't think there will be anything on the horizon quite like it.

I do love orcs, elves, and that type of lore....but I'd REALLY love to see a strong sci-fi MMO out there be the first to change things up. Sadly I don't think StarWars will be it though.

Still have my *fingers crossed* for a World of Starcraft someday!

Voted for SW:TOR. I see GW2 going the way of GW1, good game but not as widely popular as other mmo's. WoW can just make like a tree and get the f' out.

Re: Guild Wars 2 vs WoW vs Old Republic

Guild Wars 2 is taking a different direction from the original. It's set in the same world with the same lore, but it's quite a bit into the future now. No more instances. No more traditional quests - instead, it's hundreds of global events that all branch in different directions depending on how players interact with the events. Guild Wars 2 will still be free to play forever after the initial purchase. ArenaNet has shown time, and time, and time, and time again that they care about their games long after release. On top of developing Guild Wars 2, the original is STILL receiving constant updates, especially re-balancing in PvP (though most of that is done by now). Hell, when GW2 was still being developed in secret, they were pushing out major expansion packs for the original.

I see Guild Wars 2 as breaking a new barrier down in the MMO genre, not necessarily dethroning World of Warcraft. Guild Wars 2 is trying to break away from the World of Warcraft "holy trinity" of DPS, Healer, and Tank. Some classes may be more supportive than frontliners, but they'll all be able to handle anything that the holy trinity would normally assign to just one class.

That being said, people who play WoW will keep playing that. People who want to play ToR will play that. Those who want to play Guild Wars 2 will play it. I personally have Guild Wars 2 on pre-order, and I had it on pre-order within the couple of days that they announced it officially.

Re: Guild Wars 2 vs WoW vs Old Republic

It's not a particularly good comparison. WoW already "won" in 2004, and every year after that.

As for an MMO that will hold my interest and actually have a decent long lasting player presence. Both SWTOR and GW2 have a dedicated fan base that will provide the base numbers and stable player base. So could go either way, personally i'll never pay subscription for that shit, so it's GW2 for me.

Oh and LoL already took WoW of its "throne", boasting a higher constant player base.

WoW will never die though, not until Blizzard's next MMO.
