Re: Faith in humanity levels dropping
On TV, radio, and in newspapers. There isn't a "Racism is a thing of the past" channel, it's a little more subtle than that.
But not much more.
I will say that there are plenty of people in the media who identify as (or are identified as) conservatives who completely fail to reflect any of my own conservative views. I think of these people as Bullshit Conservatives, who wear a convenient label in exchange for a paycheck. They make good money in a tough economy, so I'm not sure it makes sense to call them stupid, but it's so frequently the case that their expressed views are so perfectly lacking in thoughtfulness, coherence, or insight that I wonder why it is that they're paid so well.
But they are paid. And for someone to pay them to say those things is all the evidence I need that institutionalized racism is still alive in this country.
Cheers,

No its about how the word is used just like many other words. If you mean to use it in hate then yeah its racist. We as society have taken the word to a new level by giving it the connotation of being racist and making it the worst one in our language that i can think of. So people jump right on the bandwagon that anytime a nonblack says it they are a racist.

Easy. Just as people use to ask for a fag (meaning a cigarette), and queer use to just mean odd, and people use this word sometimes against themselves meaning they arent ignorant enough to do something they know they dont have to. Not everything is black and white and there's plenty of grey area when using words.

To some sure but not all. No one can read someone elses mind and no one can really speak to whether someone is racist or not if they have never even met them. Sure it doesnt work like that every time but just jumping to someone you dont know is a racist is just stupid.
