Re: Faith in humanity levels dropping
Same with most inner cities. Many blacks in these area avoid the word just like whites. It depends on the person you want to be. Thats the division here. It has alot less to do with race then the person you are. As if a skin head makes me feel anymore comfortable than a gang banger.

I'll politely disagree and state the following:
I think ignorant behavior is ignorant as is the person conducting themselves that way, regardless of whether the person engaging in said behavior is aware of the latent ignorance in the aforementioned behavior or not. (That basically meets the definition of ignorance too - that of being unaware or lacking knowledge or education).

Not saying they are equal, so I agree with you. I am stating that some people, maybe even some of the people in the OP, use the word not because they hate a certain people, or even think they are better than them, but because they think someone else will think they are cool/funny/hard/whatever. Just like I don't think if you raised a bunch of men in the wild that their goal would be to create and wear skin tight pants with their ass hanging out, but when you add the peer pressure effect what exactly do you see quite often in public?

And your allowed to disagree. I would however guess you never grew up or spent a significant amount of time in any "downtown" nieghborhoods. Which would make you ignorant of the culture. Nothing wrong with that but when you consider where the word is most likely used the most often and take your statement into account your calling a whole lot of people ignorant just because you didnt grow up there.

Re: Faith in humanity levels dropping
Grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. Moved to South Florida and spent 6th grade on through college there. Went to one of the worst Middle Schools in Broward country and got to enjoy living in a "depressed" area and the pleasure that was "Cracker Day" and getting jumped just cause I was a white kid. So I am pretty confident that I've received enough lumps and enlightenment to have an informed accounting of some of the situations. That said, it's ignorant, the end.
*edit - the hilarious thing is that I've dated more "ethnic" women than white women and married a woman who is Mexican by birth. Color, background, race, ethnicity whatever have never mattered to me.
People are either good, intelligent (note intelligence as ability to learn/intellect and not education) and decent....or they are not good or intelligent or decent (or some combination of the three). You choose to stick around those who have at least 2 out of 3 of the first set of characteristics and things are gravy. Hang around with people with 2 or more of the second set and you're just begging for trouble and disappointment.Last edited by Alundil; 01-18-12 at 01:00 PM.
