While Anonymous isn't exactly a well organized group, I think that on their "news" twitter account they asked why anyone would think they would try to take down the social media sites when that's how they communicate with the public

Not to mention as powerful as the servers have to be it would take a hell of a lot of traffic to DDoS Facebook

Anonymous does have alot of script kiddies. However, they also have people that write the scripts for the script kiddies. There are legit high skill, truly knowledgeable hackers in Anonymous as well.
