Re: Science project Oil and shutting up the tree huggers for good.
They exsist is vastly smaller numbers for what reason? Remember we put them in that position. I disagree with your assumption tiny little housecats would have never happened. There were already tiny little cats prior to us being able to do anything with them. Then we brought them inside for companionship and called then house cats.
The problem with making those models is you will NEVER have all the information to have a correct model. I have no issue with studying things that are valuable. The output of green house gases from animals isnt anywhere near the top of the list. There are several that should be studied such as cows, chickens, and man. Everything else is a massive waste of time and resources. You can actually skip every animal but man and have more then enough information to know who needs to change what.
As for your analogy well its a bit off base. This would be more like knowing your enemy is going to attack and concentrating on what type of rock they are going to throw at you. All you need to know is its a rock.
I am curious as to what natural phenomena we can predict with 100% accuracy other then the sun is going rise and set.
What accident and its far from through ignorance. This study is every bit as ridiculous as your final statement. We know WE need to change how WE do things. Manipulating numbers to scare people into not owning pets in this nature is an embarisment to the entire scientific community.

You can lol but you know its the reality. Name some of those ways we could do that kind of damage right now. Lets keep in mind when listing them they have to be real not possibilities of what might happen. No i never read that much about what science assumes mars history is.

Re: Science project Oil and shutting up the tree huggers for good.
Really?
Just google it man, I don't want to list tens of thousands of species across millions of years. The data is extremely reliable in most cases.
if you mean due to current climate change... at least 40 species of lizards, a lot of important bugs and molds and plants and ...
The one I remember specifically as distinct single species was the Golden Toad. But It is really well studied...
Really, google it, there are literally thousands of examples you can read about.

For all we know our effects on the planet wont be the end of the huamn race. Sooner or later they will have to find new methods to do things or tech will advance all on its own to make the change. Once that goes into effect it could all reverse fairly quickly. By that i mean none of here will be here for either item but i am a bit tired of the dooms day discussion on the environment. We havent predicted a single item accurately so far. Thats not to say we didnt get lucky here and there but i would call it an "exact" science so to speak.

Re: Science project Oil and shutting up the tree huggers for good.
mars does not have a molten iron core to generate a magnetosphere. The magnetosphere attracts certain ions, which coalesce into the ionosphere. The ionosphere and magnetosphere together help to bind very light gases to the planet and also interfere with solar radiation. It appears mars may have had a massive cataclysm at some point which released enough energy (and as we know energy passes one way through a system) that the core could not maintain.
We have a molten iron core. We have devastating explosive devices. If we detonated lots of nukes in the right spots you could potentially release the energy similar to that event.
We could use simple chemicals to deplete the ozone layer and UVa would destroy almost all life except a handful of extremophiles. And because the energy that started this ball rolling is about 5 billion years ago, there is likely not enough energy being output by our sun to remotely restart it now (otherwise mars would be going again). This one is easy. the ban of CFC's has actually fixed it. Yes, we fixed a problem that was killing Australians with science and environmental legislation.
EDIT: I stopped typing because there are a lot of these, and I typed enough about these two examples.Last edited by SapiensErus; 01-23-12 at 10:28 PM.
