Re: Obama 2012?
Hub, all politicians are bat shit crazy....it's why they're politicians.
The GOP candidates are looking like whoever wins the Republican nomination is just going to be the best of nothing but bad options. There's not one I hear speak that makes me think to myself "Ya know, I think this guy's a damned good option." Instead every time they open their mouths, I can't help but think "Well, at least it's not as stupid as what THAT guy said...."
I think Newt may be the least crazy of them (Romney seems relatively sane, but he's far too much of an arrogant prick to get my vote), but the bar isn't exactly being set very high lol.

Re: Obama 2012?
So can everyone now just admit that it looks like Obama is going to win reelection, which I've been saying for at least the past 2 years? The Republicans aren't coalescing around a single candidate, which means a long, drawn-out primary, all the candidates left are batshit crazy and have crippling flaws, and Obama's numbers seem to be improving. At this moment, does anyone really believe Romney, Gingrich, or Santorum(LOL!) can realistically beat him?

Re: Obama 2012?
I'm sure you're right and Obama will win a second term. I wouldn't even be opposed to voting for him (I don't believe he's satan like some of my family does lol), but I'll look at my options a bit before I decide one way or the other
As it stands though, I can't really see any of the current candidates besting Obama.

That's the nature of politics though. You're going to get fucked regardless of who gets elected, so you pick the person that will fuck things up less. Obama was the first candidate I saw that made me think something else was possible, but the last 4 years have tarnished that particular impression a bit lol.

Re: Obama 2012?
I don't think Newt is crazy. He just says crazy things.
I think he's venal.
He's an historian, but he publicly embraces the most crazy, twisted, revisionist history I've ever heard from someone who is taken seriously by lots of people.
If thinly veiled racism is the most likely path to him getting what he wants, then thinly veiled racism is the strategy he'll pursue.
I don't even know if he's actually a racist or not. I think some strategist came to him and said "we've calculated that these phrases are the appropriately amount of slyly racist. Use them. This will win you the support of people who are racists. It will play on the fears of people who aren't overtly racist, and we'll get most of their votes too. But we'll still be able to keep a straight face if anyone confronts us on it. We'll cover the field, except for the people who will see through this bullshit, and we weren't going to get their votes anyway."
And Newt said: Sounds good!
Cheers,
