And I thought country folk from Texas were bad. At least most of us are smart enough to not freak out over gay people.

I unfortunately must remind you that until 2003, sodomy was illegal. It was not overturned by the legislature however, but by the SCOTUS.

There is some health risk associated and I could see an argument being made. But yes it was a law, and in many states not just Texas.

Well sure, but absolutely anything can have health risks. I'd be willing to bet the anti-sodomy laws were fueled by ignorance and superstition, with health risks sitting in the far back if mentioned at all. A lighter side though, I'd imagine there are quite a few old laws that simply don't apply and aren't enforced, even if they're still laws. So destroying them is more akin to cleaning empty folders on your desktop, or something.

Unfortunately, the sodomy law went before SCOTUS because a gay man was arrested by the police for doing the nasty with his boyfriend in the privacy of his own home in 2003, where he was harming no one.

And flame, let's not forget the dangers of vaginal intercourse for women including cervical cancer a la HPV. When laws like this were created, there was also the strong risk of the woman dying in child birth, too. Straight sex, however, has not been banned despite the potentially lethal side-effects.

Sodomy laws are meant to target homosexuals and represent a backwards way of thinking.

This begs for me to ask this. Now that gays can serve openly in the service did they remove the law from the USMJ because civilian law wouldn't apply to begin with?
