03-14-12, 12:59 PM #34So let me get this straight, if I put on a shirt that says, "Hecho in Mexico" that is ok because I am just displaying pride in my heritage, even though I am, "just as American as some white kids," but if I chant "USA!" at a basketball game it is because I am a racist mother fucker? Double standard much?

First as said by several earlier USA is not a race. As such it cant be racist to chant USA,
Second it must have a slow news day because this is so not news worthy its ridiculous.
Third if westboro church can chant a soldier died because the USA likes gays then i really see nothing in this story.

Damn straight...there is a clear double standard...and itīs because whites are seen as the oppressors and "minorities" are seen as the oppressed...in this case hispanics. Itīs just the way it is. A white person canīt walk around wearing a shirt that says "White Power" but a Mexican can easily and comfortably walk into a Starbucks wearing a "brown pride" shirt. The first is clearly more offensive than the second....double standard? yes....more offensive because of the history of the races, societyīs standards and non whites? yes.

"white power" is associated with a group that is widely known for their blatant racism. It's completely different than "brown pride".
That being said, do you know why it's offensive for a white person to wear anything like you mentioned vs a "minority" wearing a "______ pride shirt? Bc only the "minorities" get offended by it. I couldn't care less what you say, wear, etc.... The only reason I would ever be upset, is over the fact of the double standard itself.
Racism and offended "minorities" exist because people further the agenda by being so damn sensitive to EVERYTHING. That school board isn't personally offended. They think they should be offended on behalf of anyone who they felt got hurt by the chants. That in itself is the problem.

Re: Chanting 'USA' at basketball game deemed racist
okay the chant USA does have a place in sports but i could tell that since there was no nationality competition between two schools I think that would be more an insult than students showing pride of there country..
I might feel differently the next day but I think when theres no international competition in the game it should have not been said...
